TEAMS: New York Mets, Cincinnati Reds, Washington Nationals
If Andres Torres is nothing more then a 5th outfielder then the Mets would be a perfect place for a player coming off a down year to come and rehab his reputation, but Ankiel is just another in a growing list of players passing on the Mets.Jeff Francis, Zach Duke and Rick Ankiel are just the last three players who would have fit the Mets needs that have signed somewhere else for what the Mets were willing to pay. You have to ask if the Mets have become such an unappealing destination that players who even see a chance at playing time are willing to get buried on another team's minor league roster. The Mets haven't signed a player to even a minor league deal with an invite to major league camp since January 13th. Either the Mets are so broke they can't even sign minor league deals and these rumors are appearance value BS or that as every other NL east team has gotten stronger nobody wants to play here....
