On paper, Sammy Sosa is one of the greatest Chicago Cubs of all-time. The 7-time All-Star mashed 609 homers while maintaing a .273 batting average during his 18-year MLB career. Fans loved him, team owners wanted him, and sports writers awed over him. At least until allegations of performance-enhancing drugs surfaced at the tailend of his playing days.Sosa's link to steroids is one reason why the Cubs have broken off communication with the Dominican native in recent years. However, team chairman Tom Ricketts hinted at the possibility of reaching out to Sosa to help rekindle the relationship, on Saturday.‘‘Maybe we should revisit that,’’ Ricketts told reporters Saturday morning after a Q&A session with fans. ‘‘When we got here, there really wasn’t much communication, and we haven’t really focused on it. But maybe it’s an issue we pick up this year and see what we can do about it.’’Obviously, the club wants to have its former slugger back in some form or fashion, although to what extent or what position remains to be seen.‘‘With Sammy, it’s awkward,’’ Ricketts told a fan who asked about Sosa’s continued absence. ‘‘I think over time there’ll be a good solution for all this stuff. But you saw what happened with the Hall of Fame voting this year. It’d be nice to put this chapter to rest and just welcome back all the guys who are from that era who people suspect of doing whatever. So we’ll work towards that. We’ll take a look at that.’’The 44-year old was denied entry into the National Baseball Hall of Fame this year after receiving just 12.5 percent of the vote. In fact, no player on the ballot garnered the 75 percent needed for election.Former Houston Astros second basemen Craig Biggio topped the list with a 68.2 percent nod of approval.Via Chicago Sun-Times
