It took a few more days than expected, but Lyle Overbay will be in a Diamondbacks uniform come 2012. The first baseman reportedly agreed to a one-year, $1 million contract with the club on Tuesday, according to an article from MLBTradeRumors.com. Overbay will be a backup to starter Paul Goldschmidt next season. The left-hander will more than likely be in the lineup against tough right-hander pitchers and spell the young Goldschmidt on occasion. The 34-year-old started 2011 with Pittsburgh where he hit .234 with nine home runs and 47 RBI’s, but was released in August by the Pirates once they traded for Derrick Lee. The Diamondbacks then picked him up a few days later and Overbay did a nice job as a reserve hitting .286 in 49 at-bats down the stretch. After this signing, the D’Backs bench is pretty much set for 2012. Overbay, John McDonald, Willie Bloomquist and Geoff Blum are slated to come off the pine with Arizona only really needing to sign someone in a reserve outfiel...
