John Jaso's plate discipline improves the Athletics

The Oakland Athletics won the American League West last season despite a virtual black hole on offense from the catching position. In 632 plate appearances by all of their catchers in 2012, the triple slash line from the position was: .204/.262/.325. That .587 OPS was abysmal and worked out to a 64 OPS+. And so it made sense for Billy Beane to use a couple of his pitching prospects...

Morse Deal: What No One is Talking About

Yes, the Mariners added some much needed power in Michael Morse.  Did they pay too much in John Jaso?  Maybe.  Jaso had a 3.4 oWAR this year.  Morse had 3.8 in his “breakout” year.  When you can trade three more years of control at a premium position for one of a pending FA at a position pretty much every player with power can play, you have do to it, right? Whatever, ...

A sarcastic reponse to the Mariners Mike Morse trade

Team Jaso It was reported that the Seattle Mariners have added another first baseman/DH by acquiring Mike Morse from the Washington Nationals for catcher John Jaso. There was also something else about it being a three-way trade, but no one seems to care about that. Who cares about the Athletics? After all, they only won the division last year. It’s not like we sent our best everyday...

A’s acquire catcher John Jaso in 3-team deal

According to multiple reports, the A’s on Wednesday acquired catcher John Jaso from the Mariners in a three-team swap. The A’s send two prospects— right-handers A.J. Cole and Blake Treinen—and a player to be named later to the Washington Nationals, who send first baseman/outfielder Michael Morse to Seattle. To make room for Jaso on the 40-man roster, catcher George Kottaras...

Mariners in need of a Catcher without a plethora of options

The Mariners need to add depth at catcher The Mariners traded catcher and fan favorite John Jaso to Oakland in a three team trade to receive 1B/OF Michael Morse. This is a trade the Mariners needed to make, in spite of his popularity; Jaso was a valuable pinch hitter/platoon player. If Michael Morse can return to 2011 form, then Seattle received an every day 1B/OF that will add...

Trade Analysis: A's Acquire Jaso

The Oakland A's added more offensive firepower on Wednesday, acquiring catcher John Jaso as part of a three-team deal with the Seattle Mariners and the Washington Nationals. Find out what the A's gave up and the short-term and long-term outlooks for the deal...

Jaso, Morse Move Around In Three-Team Deal

When the Nationals acquired Denard Span, it essentially meant they’d have to choose between Adam LaRoche and Michael Morse. When they re-signed LaRoche to a multi-year contract, it essentially meant Morse would have to be traded. One might have thought this would have reduced the Nationals’ negotiating leverage, but a three-team trade on Wednesday saw the Nationals still manage...

Mariners pick up Michael Morse from Nationals

The Seattle Mariners have acquired Michael Morse from the Washington Nationals. Morse’s acquisition is part of a three team deal that will also send John Jaso to the Athletics and A.J Cole to the Nationals. The Nationals will also get two additional prospects in the deal. There is one year left on Morse’s contract which will pay him $6.75 million in 2013. Morse became expendable...

Appreciating John Jaso

John Jaso isn’t much of a household name. A year ago, he was traded for felon-turned-reliever Josh Lueke, as the Rays decided that Jaso’s deficiencies rendered expendable. The Mariners picked him up as a depth piece, and then Eric Wedge buried him on the bench to start the season, as he watched Miguel Olivo and Jesus Montero do most of the catching at the start of the season...

Nationals deal Michael Morse to Mariners in three-team deal

The Washington Nationals have traded outfielder Michael Morse to the Seattle Mariners in a three-team trade that sends Mariners catcher John Jaso to Oakland, and A's prospect AJ Cole to the Nationals. Oakland will also be sending a player to be named later to the Nationals. It's a reunion of sorts for both Morse and Cole, who were originally members of their new organizations...

Nats trade Morse to Seattle in 3-team deal

The Washington Nationals traded power-hitting Michael Morse to Seattle on Wednesday in a three-team deal that moved catcher John Jaso from the Mariners to Oakland. The NL East champion Nationals reacquired pitching prospect A.J. Cole, dealt from Washington to Oakland just 13 months ago in the trade for Gio Gonzalez. Washington also got pitcher Blake Treinen and a player to be named...

Kottaras would be a nice claim

The A's recently were involved in a three way trade in which the main piece Mike Morse went to Seattle while the A's received catcher John Jaso. Not only did they need to make room on the roster but with Jaso in the mix they no longer needed their back-up catcher George Kottaras.  The A's had just avoided arbitration with Kottaras by signing him to a 1M one year deal...
