Holliday
Hello to all, hope your holiday season so far has been pleasant. I took time off from writing about the New York Mets because of last year's disaster. I have been doing a lot of work ( to pay the bills) and ignoring the fact that the Mets were not even close to making the play-offs and the Hankee's won the World Series.

This off-season will be a long and dragged out process.. The Mets have been pondering the names like John Lackey, Jason Bay, and Matt Holliday, but none seem to be sure shots.

The Mets have also been in contact with Hideki Matsui's agent, as well as Jason Marquis, Joel Pinero and Randy Wolf. All will add the magical punch and surely will put the Mets in perfect position to win the pennant, LOL.

The Mets have to put a lot of time in to next year's roster. The team needs many parts that include a Catcher, 1B, 2B, LF, Setup, and many starters..

Luis Castillo seems to be on the chopping block finally. The Mets seem to officially have given J.J. Putz the boot and will have to look for new setup.

The Catching free agent group looks slim and I believe the Mets will take a hard look at Bengie Molina. The Mets already have signed Chris Coste for AAA and Henry Blanco as probably 3rd string. The Mets only have Omir Santos as of right now, and he seems to be  a primary backup..

The first basemen free agents are also slim. A reunion with Carlos Delgado might be in the works (way to get creative, Omar). The idea of  Daniel Murphy playing everyday might be history.. The Mets might entertain the idea of giving Hideki Matsui a first basemen mitt and letting him handle the call, ugh!

The Mets will look to add pop in the lineup and one way to do that is in the outfield. Jeff Francouer and Carlos Beltran seem to be definite returns. The Mets perfect match is Carlos Lee in Houston. The Astros would love to dump salary but the Mets would have to dump salary (Perez or Castillo) and add some prospects in the mix. I know the Mets farm system is depleting, but maybe this is where a Daniel Murphy can be used as a chip. What ever happened to the name of  Fernando Martinez? What value does he have left?

In the Starting Class of Pitchers, I would like to see Roy Halliday. The price will be steep and too much for the Mets pockets to handle. There is Aroldis Chapman who is a 22 year old phenom from Cuba, who is a free agent. The Mets should also take a look at Rich Harden, Jon Garland for final spots. The Mets need a certified number two pitcher that Pelfrey or Maine have not developed into..

The bullpen again has to be reworked and this also will not be a interesting challenge for the Mets brass. Do the Mets go ahead and get a Rafael Betancourt to setup or will they work there cheapness and get second rate crap.

The Mets might have came to the conclusion that on second base, Luis Castillo is not the answer. The pop up  against the Yankees would of been my last straw, but the Mets let him play on. Under no pressure he hit over .300 and might have some takers. We can only hope... Brandon Phillips is a guy that has drawn some interest from the Mets. He can add some needed pop in a area where the Phillies clearly have the edge ( IE:Utley). If the Mets can make a play for him, it would be ideal..

Here is MLB Rumors Mets Free Agent Predictions (OUT OF TOP 50):

1) Matt Holliday
2) Randy Wolf
3) Brad Penny

Enjoy the off-season...
