Based on his last four years, $4 million is not out of line. I’d also suggest that teams like Pittsburgh are under pressure from the union to spend more money. The MLBPA has complained in recent years that some teams are putting revenue sharing money in their pockets rather than spending it on players. Signing like this help to lessen that pressure.
