According to multiple reports Oakland Athletics veteran starting pitcher, Bartolo Colon, has been suspended 50 games by Major League Baseball for a failed drug test.
Colon’s failed test results indicated that an abnormal amount of testosterone was in his system. This is the second player ban by Major League Baseball this month for PED use.
Colon will miss the remainder of 2012, barring the club goes 10 games deep in the playoffs. The A’s will surely miss his production given that the club is in a heated race for one of the top two AL wild card spots.
This comes as a shocker to both the A’s and Colon’s fantasy owners. The 39 year old had dialed back the clock this season racking up 10 wins with a 3.93 ERA and 91 strikeouts in 152.1 innings pitched. Colon was cruising in August with a 1.88 ERA and a 0.98 WHIP in 28.2 innings.
Colon’s next start was scheduled for Thursday, August 23 at Tampa.
