What a difference a flight out west makes.
When the Phillies arrived in San Francisco yesterday, they had been in a rut, dropping two straight to the lowly Miami Marlins, including an embarrassing 14-2 loss on Sunday. Now, for a second straight night, they got a dominant performance from their starting pitcher on the way to a victory. This time, Kyle Kendrick was the responsible party, easily dispatching the Giants lineup in a 6-2 victory that never seemed in doubt.
Coming into tonight’s game, Kendrick led Phillies starters with a 2.43 ERA. Dating back to July 1, his ERA is a pristine 2.57. He’s been dubbed the team’s stopper–albeit with a tongue in cheek connotation–for a reason. He’s pitched like a true ace. Combine his recent run of success with his 1.89 career ERA when facing the Giants–his lowest against any National League opponent–and his final line would be no surprise: 7....

The Phillies starting to heat up? After getting pounded by the Marlins 14-2 the Phillies have put it together on the West Coast. The Phillies beat San Francisco for the second straight night 6-2 getting the perfect combination of pitching and hitting (Ryan Howard and Chase Utley both homered in the win).

In what was viewed as a bit of an unorthodox move, Charlie Manuel started Kevin Frandsen at first base yesterday in place of Ryan Howard. Howard was hitting .303/.342/.606 with five HR in his last 19 games and has been locked in, so it came as a surprise to some when he was replaced in the line-up by Frandsen. Frandsen rewarded the Phillies with a 1-4 day at the plate with a solo...
There's no doubt that if you stayed up for last night's entire game then you were either very tired this morning and woke up happy, or you were late to work but you don't care because your excuse is that the Phillies were on last night. These west coast games...
According to Chris Branch of the News Journal, Roy Halladay has officially been placed on the 15-day DL with what is being referred to as shoulder inflammation. Joe Savery has been recalled from Triple-A Lehigh Valley as a reliever to take the extra roster spot with a corresponding move coming Friday to determine who will take Halladay’s spot in the rotation. Savery is available...
Philadelphia Phillies pitcher Roy Halladay will have arthroscopic surgery to repair a bone spur in his right shoulder.
The two-time Cy Young Award winner made the announcement before the Phillies played the San Francisco Giants on Wednesday.
He says ''I have a good chance to come back and pitch this year, hopefully be a lot more effective.''

Per confirmation from Fightins Director of PR Eric Scarcella, the Philadelphia Phillies have signed LHP Greg Smith. Smith, 29, is a 6’1″ lefty from LSU who spent parts of 2008 and 2010 in the Majors with the Oakland A’s and Colorado Rockies. In MLB 229.1 IP, Smith has a 4.51 ERA with 1.28 K/BB. Smith stays in the mid-to-high 80s and relies on precision from his fastball, change...
The most interesting thing I saw at the game on Satuday was Cracker Jack Man, the best vendor in the stadium. Well, that week sucked. The Phillies are down to 14-18, and frankly look like a disaster in the making. This week could get really ugly. Philadelphia Phillies (14-18 NL...
Final: Phillies 3, Giants 4.
WP: Javier Lopez (1-0, 3.24 ERA) LP: Antonio Bastardo (1-1, 1.69 ERA)
Trailing 3-1 in the top of the ninth inning, the Phillies refused to give up, having already won the first two games of the series, and get ready to travel to Arizona to face the Diamondbacks. With Sergio Romo on the mound for San Francisco, Jimmy Rollins started the inning off...
It was supposed to be an easy series win, maybe even a sweep for the Phillies. It was supposed to be a redemption start for Roy Halladay, who got shellacked in his last start in Cleveland. It was neither of those things. What it was, was painful. Doc walked the very first hitter he faced [...]
