The Cardinals aren't going to "replace" Albert Pujols. There have been very few players in history as good as Pujols, and unless the Cardinals sign Prince Fielder -- and that's not likely to happen -- they're not going to come close to finding another Albert.

Albert Pujols will turn 32 next month. It's very possible that his best seasons are behind him. He just signed a 10-year, 254 million contract with the Angels.
Prince Fielder, 27, is entering his prime. He had the better 2011 regular season. Scott Boras can argue that Fielder will outperform Pujols over the next decade and is therefore entitled to a larger contract.

Since failing to resign Albert Pujols to a long term contract extension, the St. Louis Cardinals have been quite active in filling key holes in the team's roster. The Cardinals brought back shortstop Rafael Furcal and resigned Skip Schumaker, who is expected to fill more of a reserve role for the Cardinals in 2012.
