In the rubber match of this Marlins-Phillies series, big Joe took the mound against big Z, Carlos Zambrano. Blanton was looking to redeem himself from his past couple of starts in which he was lit up. He is 4-5 this year with a 5.05 ERA. Zambrano is 3-3 this year with a 3.00 ERA.  Miami put up two runs with a pair of solo home runs early on. In the third, it was Carlos Zambrano who launched a 418 ft. homer to left field, his 24th of his career. Hanley Ramirez continued his hot streak in Philly with a wallop into the flower beds in left field. The Phillies' offense had nothing going for four straight innings before Juan Pierre got on base with a bunt double in the sixth. However, he wouldn't be sent home. Not good.  Jose Reyes caused more damage to Blanton's ERA and BABIP with a two-run double to the gap in right-center field. Zambrano moved over to third base, putting two men in scoring position with no outs. This would bring in Chad Qualls, obviously. Blanton's ...

A Third In: Promising

The Marlins have completed the first third of the season. Things are starting to be more structured in how the season will sort out. And for the Marlins, even though things looked very bleak earlier, things look promising for potentially achieving anything this season. Yes, anything – including a third World Series championship. First, we can begin with the starting pitching. So...

Marlins looking to change fortune in Philly

The Miami Marlins beat one of the majors' top pitchers to even their series in Philadelphia. They might win the set if they can somehow add to the struggles of the Phillies' next scheduled starter. Trying for their first winning series at Citizens Bank Park in two years, the Marlins hope for some rare success against Joe Blanton on Sunday. Hanley Ramirez homered twice and...

Marlins take 2 of 3 in Philadelphia

Just three days into June the Marlins are already almost half way to their win total from last June.  The Marlins took two of three from the Phillies in Philadelphia, a place that has been a house of horrors to the Marlins in the past.  The Marlins really struggled at times in Friday's 6-4 loss.  In a game where the Marlins left 12 men on base and went 1 for 12 with runners...

The Miami Marlins picked up their 30th win of the season with a 5-4 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies on Saturday.   The win kept Miami one game behind the first place Washington Nationals in the National League East.    The win also gives the Marlins a chance to keep their unbeaten streak in series alive if they win on Sunday.   The Marlins are 7-0-3 in their last ten...

Marlins tied for first despite lack of clutch hitting

Manager Ozzie Guillen said he was flipping through a packet of daily statistics the other day when he saw something that made his jaw drop -- his Marlins are among the worst teams in baseball when it comes to situational hitting. "I was, 'Wow,' " Guillen said. "How the (bleep) are we where we are right now?" The Marlins are 31-23 record and in a virtual...

The Phils lose two straight games as both games starters are hurt by home runs, as they drop a pair to the Marlins, losing 5-4 and 5-1.

Phils starters are hurt by the long ball, as the team loses a pair to the Marlins, losing by the scores of 5-4 and 5-1. On Saturday, the Phils took the lead in the first as, with runners on second and third, and with one man out, Carlos Ruiz hits into an RBI ground out, three-unassisted, knocking in Juan Pierre, who had earlier singled, moved up to second base on Hunter Pence’s...

Ramirez, Reyes Push Marlins to 5-4 Win over Phillies

Cole Hamels took the mound this evening looking for his ninth win, which would lead the majors. After allowing five runs for the first time since last July, he would take the loss after the Phillies' offense failed to come from behind.  After a quick 12-pitch inning from Hamels, Carlos Ruiz (who else?) put up the first run of the game with an RBI groundout, scoring Juan Pierre...

'Li'l Jose' doll making rounds at Marlins games

By Eric Esteban Before the start of Sundays Marlins game in Philadelphia, shortstop Jose Reyes was feeling adventurous. While Miami teammates shagged fly balls and lined up for batting practice, Reyes was at Pats King of Steaks downing a signature sandwich and exploring the City of Brotherly Love. How he was able to be in two places at once? The sight-seeing Reyes was actually...

Player's Who Can Hit and Pitch

The Miami Marlins controversial pitcher Carlos Zambrano reminded all of us yesterday that we do have pitchers in baseball that still know how to hit. Zambrano's solo blast off the Phillie's Joe Blanton put him into a seventh place-tie with former Cardinal star pitcher Bob Gibson and John Clarkson, who pitched in the big leagues from 1882-1894, on the all...

Braves-Marlins Preview

The Miami Marlins are just percentage points out of first place in the NL East race. The Atlanta Braves aren't far behind. Jose Reyes looks to extend the longest active hitting streak in the majors as the Marlins welcome the Braves to their new stadium for the first time Tuesday night. Miami (31-23) is three-thousandths of a percentage point behind Washington in the East....

The Phils survive both a rain delay and a late Marlins’ rally to defeat the fish, 6-4.

Surviving both a 45 mins. rain delay and a late Marlins’ rally, the Phils defeat the pesky fish, 6-4. The Marlins took the lead in the first as, with one man on, and with two men out, Gianocarlo Stanton hits an RBI double, knocking in Omar Infante, who had earlier singled, giving the Marlins a 1-0 lead. The Phils would take the lead in their half of the first as, with the bases...
