Since Roy Halladay suffered a shoulder injury in St. Louis on May 27, Phillies starting pitchers have been in a collective slump. Entering play Thursday, Philadelphia's All-Star laden rotation had a 5.97 ERA in 15 games.

Joe Blanton had been a big part of that downward turn. In each of his past five starts entering Thursday, Blanton had allowed at least five runs; he had a 9.91 ERA over that stretch.

But Blanton emerged from his slump by hurling his second complete game of the season in a 6-1 victory over Minnesota. He held the Twins to one run -- a solo home run from Trevor Plouffe -- on seven hits while striking out seven and walking zero en route to his sixth win of the season.

For the first time since 2007, when he was a member of the Oakland Athletics, Blanton has multiple complete games in a season. He threw a shutout in Atlanta on May 3.

Blanton was 2-3 with a 7.65 ERA in seven starts in between his complete games.

"I felt like the last two (starts) I was getting close but not quite there, and kind of the same today," Blanton said. "It's not one of those where it was a quick fix and everything suddenly got better. It's been kind of a trying a few different things and gradually getting a little more comfortable and more comfortable."

The victory gave the Phillies their first series win since taking two out of three from the New York Mets at Citi Field from May 28-30. It was the first time the Phils had won back-to-back games since May 30 and June 1.

"Sometimes a little bit goes a long way," Blanton said. "Win a couple in a row and the next thing you know, you win another one and another one, and you've put together a good streak of wins."
