Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Jose Bautista is back on the 15-day disabled list, saddled with the same injury that kept him sidelined for 5 1/2 weeks before his short-lived return on Friday.
Bautista left Toronto's game against the Baltimore Orioles on Saturday night in the third inning with discomfort in his left wrist, and after the game the Blue Jays put him on the DL.
Bautista will see a hand specialist on Sunday, said Toronto manager John Farrell, who didn't hesitate yanking the slugger from the game after he complained about soreness in his wrist.
"Given what he means to us, not just in the current, but in the long term, as a precautionary measure we felt we needed to get him out of there," Farrell said.
With Toronto in last place and 14 games under .500, it makes little sense to take any risks to the two-time major league home run leader.
Bautista suspects the injury occurred in the first inning during his only at-bat of the game.
"Maybe it's one of those swings I took today," the slugger said. "One of those swings on my first at-bat I started feeling something. I think I did the proper thing telling them. Doctor says it's nothing to panic about."
Bautista thought it would take only a "couple days" for the injury to heal before being told he was being placed on the DL.
"I was not aware of that," he said. "I don't feel terrible and I don't feel 100 percent. The pain is nothing like what I felt the first time."
It's been a difficult season for the slugger, who was sidelined from July 17 until Friday with inflammation in his left wrist.
Toronto also put first baseman David Cooper (back strain) on the DL, activated Adam Lind (back) from the disabled list and recalled infielder Adeiny Hechavarria from Triple-A Las Vegas.

Toronto Blue Jays: Bautista and Morrow are back
When I saw the Blue Jay’s lineup just before the start of the first game against Baltimore, I had reason to feel optimistic. Jose Bautista was back and I was expecting him to do some damage.
How did he do? Well, he went 0-4 at the plate.  How did his team do? Well, they lost, again. This time by a score of 6-4. This was their sixth straight loss in a row.
Now donâ...
Blue Jays OF Colby Rasmus’ cornrows look awful
Blue Jays outfielder Colby Rasmus is mired in a 1 for 37 slump dating back to August 15th.  Apparently early batting practice and extra time in the cage hasn’t helped, so he decided to do the next best thing.  He made himself ugly.

Davis homers in first three at-bats
Stepping to the plate with a chance to become the 17th player in baseball history to hit four home runs in a game, Chris Davis had one thing in mind.
''I was thinking about trying to work a walk,'' Davis said with a wry grin.
Davis didn't get that fourth homer, but three was quite enough to power the Baltimore Orioles to a 6-4 victory over the skidding Toronto...
Bautista, Morrow set to return to Blue Jays
Help is about to arrive for the Toronto Blue Jays. And they sure need it. Toronto is 5-16 in August after losing 3-2 in 11 innings Thursday as the Detroit Tigers completed a three-game sweep. The Blue Jays lost despite a superb start from lefty J.A. Happ, who lasted 7 1/3 innings, the first Blue Jays starter to go that deep into a game since Brandon Morrow pitched a two-hit...
