Toronto Blue Jays starter Carlos Villanueva underwent an MRI on Thursday after getting shelled in a game against the Tampa Bay Rays a day earlier.Villanueva surrendered eight runs on nine hits, including three home runs, in just 2 2/3 innings of work. It was his shortest start of the season.Manager John Farrell said the move was simply a precautionary measure, and suggested Villanueva may be experiencing arm fatigue."He wasn't feeling discomfort," said Farrell. "I think just physically
he is starting to fatigue. You see it with a little bit less velocity,
particularly the action to the secondary stuff."Villanueva has made 13 starts and 13 relief appearances for Toronto this season, going 6-3 with a 4.24 ERA over 97 2/3 innings. It isn't known whether he will make his next scheduled start.
