In a move that had been anticipated for a couple of weeks now, the Blue Jays have deemed Brett Cecil fit for MLB duty, thus ending Zach Stewart’s cup of tea here in the big leagues. We won’t have to wait very long to see Cecil’s post-demotion, either; the lefty will make his debut against the Phillies on Canada Day. For Cecil, the promotion begins his road to redemption this season, after struggling through April with decreased velocity. Although he doesn’t leave the PCL with eye-popping stats (5.26 ERA, 1.44 WHIP), the most important thing is that he’s regained the extra couple of ticks on his fastball, and that he’s done well to correct his control problems. Cecil had a career-low 1.36 K/BB ratio when he was demoted, and he’ll return with the number at 2.63, closer to his career norms. The long ball remained a problem for him in the PCL….but then again, it’s the PCL – if his control numbers hold, he should be able to brin...
