Infielder Macier Izturis signed a three-year, $9 million contract with the Blue Jays on Thursday, the team announced via Twitter. The deal includes a $3 million club option for 2016. The Jays also dealt for right-hander Jeremy Jeffress for cash considerations. Izturis' deal is the largest given out by general manager Alex Anthopoulos, beating one-year $4.5 million deals handed to Darren Oliver and Francisco Cordero last winter. The 32-year-old batted .256 in 319 plate appearances for the Los Angeles Angels in 2012. He is the early favorite to start at second base, and will compete with rookie Adeiny Hechavarria. To make room on the 40-man roster for Jeffress, the Blue Jays designated Scott Maine for assignment.
