Matthew Cerrone's Mets Blog:
According to multiple reports, the Mets have hired Bob Geren to be Terry Collins’ bench coach.
Geren would replace Ken Oberkfell as the team’s bench coach, who was let go last week along with Jon Debus (bullpen coach) and Mookie Wilson (first base/outfield coach).
According to Mike Puma of the New York Post, Geren was the candidate of choice of the front office, while Jim Riggleman was Terry Collins’ preference.
Geren, 50, managed the Oakland Athletics from 2007 until he was fired after 63 games into the 2011 season. During his tenure with the Athletics, Geren was 334-376.
