BoSox 3B Lowell put on 15-day DL with hip strain

Boston Red Sox third baseman Mike Lowell was placed on the 15-day disabled list Tuesday with a strained right hip. Lowell had fluid drained from his hip Monday in Boston, and received an injection designed to the surgically repaired joint. The move is retroactive to June 28; Lowell had played in only two of Boston's last nine games and returned to Boston following Sunday night's game in Atlanta. The 35-year-old is batting .282 with 10 home runs and 41 RBIs.
