PHILADELPHIA (AP) -- Cole Hamels threw a five-hitter for his fifth career shutout, Ryan Howard hit a two-run homer and the Philadelphia Phillies beat Atlanta 3-0 Tuesday night to snap a seven-game losing streak against the Braves. Hamels (12-6) struck out six and didn't walk a batter to record his 11th career complete game and his first win in three tries since signing a 144 million, six-year contract July 25. The All-Star left-hander is 4-5 since going 8-1 the first two months of the season. Mike Minor (6-8) took the loss for the wild card-leading Braves, who had won eight of 10. Minor allowed three runs and seven hits in seven innings. Hamels last threw a regular-season shutout on Sept. 1, 2009 against San Francisco. He tossed a five-hitter against Cincinnati to complete Philadelphia's three-game sweep in the 2010 NLDS. The Phillies scored all their runs in the first inning. Jimmy Rollins led off with a double down the left-field line. Domonic Brown then lined a doubl...

Hamels Wills Phillies To Victory Over Braves

Cole Hamels decided the Phillies weren't going to lose tonight. (AP) There was a baseball game in Philadelphia tonight, but it was in name only. For, you see, it was less a game than a one-man pitching showcase, headlined by Cole Hamels and his nine shutout innings. His performance willed the Phillies to a victory over the Braves, 3-0, in a game where the runs scored will become...

Cole Hamels : "They're going to start another streak;" Phillies Will Be Winners

Cole Hamels was absolutely dominant last night on the mound, throwing his first complete game since September 2011 and his first shut out since September 2009 in his 100th career start at Citizens Bank Park.  Today, Hamels spoke about why he re-signed with the Phillies. Check out today's interview from MLB Network Radio on Sirius XM with Jim Memolo and Jeff Nelson.   You...

Hamels Ends Losing Streak Against Braves

It appears that Cole Hamels has found his groove again, and just in time to end a long Phillies losing streak against the division rival Braves. Prior to Tuesday night, the Braves had won 7 straight against the struggling Phils. But once Hamels snapped out of his pitching slump, he made easy work out of Atlanta’s line-up. He pitched a 5-hit, complete game shut-out with 6 strike...

Hamels is lone bright star on Phillies pitching staff

Cole Hamels Gets The Nod In An Effort To Even Series With Braves

Last night was just another example of the 2012 Phillies. Poor play, no drive to play for win and the inability to hit with runners in scoring position. Vance Worley allowed four earned runs on six hits through 3 2/3 innings, but left early with what was later diagnosed by Charlie Manuel as "stomach issues". The Phils lost pretty heavily to their NL East rivals last night...

The Phils finally end their losing streak with the Braves, as Hamels five-hits Atlanta, leading to a 3-0 win.

Cole Hamels five-hit the Braves as the Phils finally end their losing streak with Atlanta, winning 3-0. The Phils took a quick 1-0 lead in the first as Dom Brown hits an RBI double, knocking in Jimmy Rollins, who had started the inning off with a double. Two batters later, with Brown still on second base, and now with one man out, Ryan Howard hits a two-run home run, his fifth home...

Cole Hamels Shuts Out Braves in His First Complete Game of the Season, 3-0

Fantastic. Outstanding. Spectacular. Masterful. Anyway you want to say it, Cole Hamels was all of that and beyond tonight against Mike Minor and the Braves.  The three runs the Phillies scored tonight would be enough for Cole who shut out Atlanta in a complete game effort.  The runs would come in the first inning, and that would pretty much be it for offense in the game. First...
