PLAYERS: Brandon Beachy
TEAMS: Atlanta Braves
Brandon Beachy was the surprise story for the Atlanta Braves for a good chunk of the season.  The 26-year old starter was fantastic, but then the injury happened.  Beachy started feeling discomfort in his arm, was placed on the disabled list, was ultimately diagnosed with a torn UCL, and had to undergo Tommy John surgery.  The recovery time for the surgery is lengthy (usually 12-18 months), but Beachy is working his way back. Beachy continues to increase the distance from which he can throw.  He first began throwing shortly after the regular season ended.  He is now throwing from up to 90 feet away from his target says Mark Bowman of MLB.com. "I can't even tell you what my throwing program will be at the start of any week," Beachy said. "I specifically told [the trainers] not to tell me. Just when I show up, tell me what I have to do that day. That way, I'm not looking ahead, because I know I'll just get anxious and start circling dates on my calendar. All of that can change quickly. I don't want to be disappointed. I'm literally just trying to take it one day at a time." Beachy made 13 starts this past season before injuring himself.  He posted a 2.00 ERA through those starts and looked fantastic.  The Braves are high on what he can do, but they still have about seven months before Beachy returns to the game. Beachy has three seasons of Major League ball under his belt, and he is not arbitration eligible until 2014.  The Braves have a very good pitcher who is cost controlled for quite some time.  They will, of course, want to see how he performs after coming back from surgery, but most pitchers come back and pitch just fine in their first year back from Tommy John.   Follow @mlbinjurynews !function(d,s,id){var js,fjs=d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0];if(!d.getElementById(id)){js=d.createElement(s);js.id=id;js.src="http://www.mlbinjurynews.com//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js";fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js,fjs);}}(document,"script","twitter-wjs"); var _gaq = _gaq || []; _gaq.push(['_setAccount', 'UA-34100676-1']); _gaq.push(['_trackPageview']); (function() { var ga = document.createElement('script'); ga.type = 'text/javascript'; ga.async = true; ga.src = ('https:' == document.location.protocol ? Jones Tweets massive midseason bruise

James Carr @jamescarr89 In the city of Atlanta, Chipper Jones doesn't have to do very much to impress anymore. He played his entire career in Atlanta, set records, won titles, and is one of the biggest fan-favorites in Braves' lore. Jones retired this season, surely on his way to the Hall of Fame in five years, in part because his body couldn't take the wear and tear...

Chipper Jones Tweets Incredibly Disgusting Bruise Pic

Earlier in May of this year Braves third baseman took a groundball from B.J. Upton off of the leg and was diagnosed with a “left leg contusion.” We can only assume that retirement is a little boring for Chipper so today he decided to Tweet out a picture of the “contusion,” and it is horrible. Y’all remember that line drive from Bj Upton I took off the ankle this year...

Chipper Jones tweets picture of bruised leg

If you look up “true professional” in your proverbial dictionary, you just might find a picture of the recently-retired, former Atlanta Braves third baseman Larry “Chipper” Jones.  Chipper was as consistent as they come from both sides of the plate.  In fact, he hit .303 from the left side and .304 from the right.  The no-doubt first ballot Hall of Famer finished with...

Braves sign catcher Laird to back up McCann

The Atlanta Braves have agreed to a two-year deal with backup catcher Gerald Laird. The 33-year-old Laird has appeared in the last two World Series. He played for the Detroit Tigers this past season, hitting .282 with two homers and 11 RBIs, and the St. Louis Cardinals in 2011. The Braves targeted Laird after David Ross, who backed up Brian McCann the past four seasons, signed...

Chipper Jones sufferd an incredibly nasty leg bruise earlier in the season (Picture)

Back in May, Chipper Jones spent a short time on the disabled list after he took a B.J. Upton one-hopper directly to the lower leg. The injury was described as a “left leg contusion,” which is a fancy phrase for a bruise. If you criticized Chipper at the time for missing games because of a bruise, you take it back. You take it back right now. Jones tweeted the photo you see above...

Braves Notes: Kimbrel deserves shot at Cy Young

Craig Kimbrel had an amazing, record-breaking season, so its just wrong hes not among the three finalists for the NL Cy Young that will be awarded today. It will go to either Los Angeles Clayton Kershaw, Washingtons Gio Gonzalez or New Yorks R.A. Dickey, but Kimbrel deserved to be among the finalists, if not the winner. I know, relievers never receive much consideration for baseballs...

B.J. Upton a Brave?

Upton stole 31 bases in 37 attempts last season with Tampa Bay The Atlanta Braves had free agent center fielder, B.J. Upton, at Turner Field this past week, and they are reportedly very interested in his services. But would Upton be a good fit? Upton brings an impressive skill package, having hit 28 homers last season, with 31 steals in 37 attempts.  He’s also a very adept center...

Is Michael Bourn worth $20 million a year?

If your team is in the free agent market, there are a few things you root for. One would be this slugging god of a player who can hit the ball over the deepest fences. A Fielder-type of guy. Another on the wish list is a stud pitcher like Greinke or even Sanchez. And perhaps you would want a stud closer such as Soriano. For most fans, signing a player like Michael Bourn would not...

Chipper Jones Tweets Gross Picture of His Leg Injury

Chipper Jones took a trip to the disabled list in May after taking a line drive to the ankle. I’m pretty sure skin isn’t supposed to ever be that shade of purple, but hey, what do I know? See the photo here >>

Chipper Jones tweeted a beautifully bruised ankle

Chipper Jones tweeted "Y'all remember that line drive from Bj Upton I took off the ankle this year? Be glad I left the bandage on!!! Yuck!" No, don't actually recall that play at all. Jones... Full story at Bob's Blitz ~ http://www.bobsblitz.com

Chipper Jones shows off nasty bruise

Nastylicious. We’ve seen our fair share of gnarly bruises around here (see Lepisto, Sami and Crain, Jesse), so when Braves 3rd baseman Chipper Jones recently tweeted out this photo of his horrifically bruised left ankle—the end result of a BJ Upton line drive off the leg early in the 2012 season—it really shouldn’t have made anyone squeamish in the least, seeing that we...

Braves Rumors: Atlanta Interested in Cody Ross

The Atlanta Braves are interested in free agent outfielder Cody Ross, reports Jon Paul Morosi of FOX Sports, who’s also being pursued by several other teams, including the Baltimore Orioles and Boston Red Sox. The Atlanta Braves, looking to add an outfield bat, have interest in signing free-agent outfielder Cody Ross, according to a major-league source. The...

Atlanta Braves interested in Cody Ross

According to a Major League source close to Jon Paul Morosi of FOXSports, the Atlanta Braves are looking to add an outfielder bat and are interested in veteran outfielder Cody Ross. With Martin Prado probably moving to third base to fill Chipper Jones' spot, the 31-year old Ross could become their everyday left fielder. In 528 plate appearances for the Red Sox in 2012, Ross hit...

Braves turn sights to signing B.J. Upton

At one point the Atlanta Braves had hopes of signing both Torii Hunter and B.J. Upton. With Hunter signing a two year deal with the Detroit Tigers, the Braves are turning their sights solely to Upton. The Braves have two spots to fill in the outfield thanks to Michael Bourn becoming a free agency and [...] [[ This is a content summary only. Visit my website for full links, other...
