Byrd’s solo homer in the first inning—his team-leading 17th blast of the year—extended his streak of games with an RBI to five, one shy of his career high set from June 21-26, 2007. Byrd has seven RBIs in the streak and a team-high 56 overall. The two-hit game was the fourth in the last five games for Byrd and his ninth of the month overall. He is hitting .338 (24-for-71) with five homers and 16 RBIs in July, during which he has raised his overall average from .257 to .277, the highest it has been since April 7. Finally With Some Regular Playing Time, Lagares Is Sizzling For The Mets

Lagares now batting .398 over his last 11 games with 9 RBIs. More playing time agrees with him. — Mets Merized Online (@MetsMerized) July 21, 2013 @maggie162 That can only happen with more playing time. And right on cue, Mets OF Juan Lagares has been named National League Player of the Week for the period ending July 21. What does the future hold for Dillon Gee?

The 2011 Mets were a team that fans and the front office would want to forget; David Wright and Johan Santana were injured, Mike Pelfrey couldn’t maintain any kind of consistency, Jason Bay had another sub-par year, and Jose Reyes departed to Free Agency following the season. One of the few bright spots for this team, mostly in the first half, was the performance of Dillon...

Game Chatter: Dillon Gee vs. Julio Tehran (7/22/13)

Dear Mets front office: What’s your definition of overwhelmed?

You have certainly read reports that the Mets would need to be “overwhelmed” to trade Bobby Parnell (who Detroit and Boston have interest in) but what you may not have read is that they need to be equally “overwhelmed” to trade the thirty five year old rental, Marlon Byrd. Parnell is only 28 and looks to have shaped into a fairly reliable closer.  He’s got two controlled...

Gee Shines, But Mets Drop An Absolute Heartbreaker

The Mets fought valiantly tonight, but it was not to be as Julio Teheran and Dillon Gee engaged in a great pitcher’s duel which saw Gee flirt with a no-hit bid. After both Teheran and Gee traded zeroes through the first three and a half frames, the Amazins’ struck first in the bottom of the fourth when Ike Davis drove in Marlon Byrd after Byrd’s one-out…eh…triple. Unfortunately...

Here Is The Math On Byrd…

Yesterday, during the game, I tweeted the following after Marlon Byrd launched his 17th home run of the season: Marlon Byrd > Michael Bourn X 2 Marlon Byrd > Justin Upton + BJ Upton Marlon Byrd > Scott Hairston X 10 Marlon Byrd just freaking rocks! — Mets Merized Online (@MetsMerized) July 21, 2013 Anybody disagree with me? Thought’s On Gee’s Wasted Performance, And Parnell’s Blown Save

Last night’s loss to the Braves sucked big time… This much is true… But what bugged me the most was how it wiped out a brilliant performance by Dillon Gee who continues to dominate after injuries saw him start the season off in some pretty dire straits. The Mets wasted Gee’s seven shutout innings and the fact he had a no-hitter through six became an afterthought. The right...

Mets Troll Yankees On Twitter, Hilarity Ensues

The New York Mets are playing some pretty good baseball of late. Matt Harvey is the best thing since sliced bread, Juan Lagares was just named NL Player of the Week, and they are now within 10 games of the division leading Atlanta Braves. So the Mets are feeling pretty good about themselves. Good enough to poke fun at their crosstown rivals with a subtle poke at the injury-riddled...

Game Preview: Lagares Back In Center As Mets Try To Put Last Night Behind Them

Game Preview: Braves vs Mets

The Braves are coming to Queens! After taking a weekend series from the Phillies, the Mets look to continue on their current roll. In case you missed it, the Mets started out stumbling after the break quickly falling behind the Phillies 11-0. Then a certain OF who really should be traded for prospects (you could say he’s the word) smacked a 3 run homer and the Mets outscored the...

You Mad, Bro? “A Win On Star Wars Night”

From SB Nation’s “Talking Chop” Blog:   “I’m predicting a hot streak after the ending to last night.” “Is that a stray dog barking? Jesus Miami…” “It’s DMX” “Barking hot dog vendor apparently” “Interesting dilemma. Risk being thrown out at the plate or risk being stranded by uggla.” “I blame Gattis. He placed the ball on the wrong side of the...

Lets Not Go Chasing Rainbows… Stay The Course

This morning, I found myself motivated to chime in on a subject that has befuddled me all season long. What are we? You’re talking about 60-something games left, so it’s going to be an uphill battle. It’s not just catching them, it’s you’ve got to pass other teams. We were awful for a good portion of the year and we’ve been pretty damn good lately, but we dug ourselves...

Before And After

In a span of five seconds ... ... ecstasy ... ... turns to horror. And that's what its like to be a Met fan. Or a Met. Monday's whole game encapsulates the last 5-50 years. Dillon Gee has a no-hitter through six. Mets have a 1-0 lead going into the ninth. Bobby Parnell gets dinked and dunked to death. John Buck has a passed ball on a cross-up...
