Free-agent closer, Brian Fuentes is scheduled to meet with Omar Minaya and the Mets, according to this morning's column by Troy Renck of the Denver Post.
It was only last week that Adam Rubin of the Daily News, hinted that the Mets might be turned off by the high price tag Fuentes is seeking.
It had been reported by several sources that Brian Fuentes is seeking a three year deal worth around $33 million dollars.
I don't understand why the Mets would feel this is too expensive for a closer in todays market?
I don't believe they will get a closer for anything less than the $10 million dollars per year they were paying Billy Wagner, but the Mets seem inclined to believe that they will be able to pull it off.
I don't think they can accomplish that through free agency. They have explored trading for a closer with Seattle and the White Sox, but nothing really came of it because they felt the asking prices were to high for J.J. Putz and Bobby Jenks.
