Peavy awaits to see if or where he will be traded by the July 31 trade deadline. There are only three days until the trade deadline and the Chicago White Sox have yet to deal anyone besides Matt Thornton.  There are massive amounts of rumors surrounding stating pitcher Jake Peavy right now, with rumors of the Atlanta Braves being heavily involved in negotiations as well as the Oakland A’s.  However, there are conflicting reports saying the Atlanta Braves are out of negotiations due to the prospects the White Sox desire in return. According to Bruce Levine of ESPNChicago.com, Peavy was seen with an attendant moving five packed suitcases.  It seems highly unlikely that Peavy will be still on the Sox’ active roster after July 31, but there hasn’t been many rumors about any other Sox players, barring Alexei Ramirez who is rumored to be moved with Peavy to the St. Louis Cardinals. Jesse Crain, once a trade asset before the All-Star break, can’t come off the disabled list due to his injured shoulder continuing to bother him.  Crain still may be dealt during the waiver period following the trade deadline, but Crain wasn’t going to bring much back to the White Sox anyhow. What the White Sox really need is hitting.  In the most recent Kansas City Royals series the Sox managed to score a meager three runs.  Of course the Sox were swept in the series, leaving many questions about how long it will take an offense such as the Sox’ to be rebuilt into respectability. Jake Peavy may be the key to acquiring more batting talent, yet the Sox are reportedly asking for the moon in the package they desire in return, as well as whichever team acquires the veteran to pay most, if not all, of his contract.  It seems that GM Rick Hahn may be just posturing to try to receive as much value as the organization can in return.  It seems unlikely that the Oakland A’s would be able to take on much, if any, of Peavy’s nearly $20 million contract remnants. Just like with many trade rumors, there seems to be a lot of misinformation to either drive down or drive up the interest in Jake Peavy.  Good luck trying to make sense of any of it now, but we’ll know for sure by July 31.

  • It would appear that Rich Hahn and the White Sox can't even conduct a fire sale as well as the Cubs!!

Jake Peavy's trade market is vibrant, and confusing

Chicago White Sox starter Jake Peavy is probably going to get traded in the next three days. that is, if you believe Peavy. And honestly, there are a lot of fanbases out there that want nothing to do with Peavy, damning his contract and injury history. But would Peavy be a huge upgrade for a team looking for starting pitching, or would he be a waste of resources? 2012 was the...

Red Sox Are Still In Jake Peavy Sweepstakes

Back On Sox Radar?According to Jeff Passan of YAHOO! Sports, the Red Sox are "very much in" the running to get White Sox starter Jake Peavy. This is directly contrary to most reports over the weekend. Passan claims that—while still not the favorites to land Peavy—Boston is "motivated" and has the best package of prospects to offer Chicago. Peavy has a 4.28...

The Chicago White Sox are now telling teams that they will not trade Jake Peavy and will instead attempt to rebuild around the veteran right-hander, according to ESPN’s Buster Olney. Peavy has been mentioned in trade rumors involving a number of teams, including the Red Sox, Orioles and Cardinals...

White Sox saying they will keep Jake Peavy

It could be a ploy to drum up more interest in the 32 year old right-hander, but the Chicago White Sox are now saying that they will keep Jake Peavy, and “build around him.” The White Sox are telling other teams they’re going to keep Peavy and build around him. — Buster Olney (@Buster_ESPN) July 29, 2013   Peavy has been rumored to be heading to several teams, including...

Report: A’s out of Jake Peavy chase

Over the weekend, professional rumor starters, a.k.a. reporters, said that the A’s had emerged as the front runners in a field that includes other postseason hopefuls, the Red Sox, Orioles, Dodgers and Cardinals, to land Jake Peavy, one of the top starting pitchers on this year’s trade market. It makes sense for the A’s—adding a veteran pitcher to the rotation, that is....

Peavy Scratched, Rienzo to Start Tonight

Per multiple reports, the White Sox have elected to scratch Jake Peavy from tonight’s start in Cleveland and will instead start Andre Rienzo. Rienzo has been dominant in AAA recently, even tossing a no-hitter. He will also make history tonight, as he’ll be the first Brazilian player to pitch in the MLB. However, that’s hardly the story with this piece of news....

Jake Peavy Could Improve Red Sox’ Rotation, But Potential Impact Not Enough to Mortgage Future Over

The Red Sox’ starting rotation isn’t the same without Clay Buchholz. But it’s nothing to sneeze at, either, and the Red Sox have to keep that in mind while scouring a thin trade market. Jake Peavy has replaced Matt Garza, who was dealt to the Rangers, as the most talked about pitcher on the trade market, and the Red Sox have been at the forefront of the deadline chatter. Peavy...

Plenty of White Sox involved in rumors as Deadline nears

The phrase "You can't tell the players without a scorecard" might hold especially true for the White Sox when they are next playing at U.S. Cellular Field against the Yankees on Aug. 5. Those changes actually could come as soon as Monday with the non-waiver Trade Deadline arriving Wednesday at 3 p.m. CT. Then again the White Sox might very well feature the same basic...

Phillies Outbid Red Sox For Cuban Pitcher

So much for unlimited Red Sox resources. Boston was outbid by the Phillies for the services of Cuban defector Miguel Alfredo Gonzalez. Several sources had pinned the Red Sox as the favorite, but apparently, John Henry had some other priorities as Philly outbid the Liverpool soccer magnate by $20 million (reportedly $60 million for six years versus $40 million for six years). Now...

Double-header day deadline links

The Pirates and Cardinals will play a double-header today starting at four. The Pirates haven't named a starter for game 2 yet, though at this point the best guesses remain Stolmy Pimentel or Kris Johnson. I've been harboring a Jake Peavy pipe dream all weekend (the White Sox seem likely to scratch him from his start tonight, but there's absolutely no indication that...
