Don’t believe the hypeStart here About Bklynboy59 i Rate This I received a text to day from someone who always likes to see if he can get a rise out of me. He’s a Yankee fan, I’m a Met fan. So the text reads “Awesome!!! Chipper Jones coming out of retirement to join the Yankees!!!!!!!!!!!! So I replied back where did you see that? He said where and I followed up on the information and he also texted me that Derek Lee and Scott Rolen where coming as well. So now I really started researching this. The two places that he cited didn’t even mention it. However Yahoo sports did run an article. Basically it cited Yankee General Brian Cashman as saying he would love to have Chipper Jones and that he did reach out to him only to be told …No! So no Chipper Jones on the left side of the infield with Derek Jeter, as for the Derek Lee to the Yankees it seems to have some truth but I get the feeling it’s a wait and see thing. Scott Rolen I thought was still with the Reds and didn’t think that had any teeth to it. But getting back to Jones coming to the Yankees this is where I guess the Yankee fan who text me got this from: General manager Brian Cashman even said so Monday, expressing interest in the retired Atlanta Braves star. ”He’d be perfect,” Cashman said at Yankees’ camp in Tampa. ”I’d take Larry in a heartbeat. I think everybody would.” The eight-time All-Star third baseman – better known by his nickname than actual first name – quickly ended such talk. ”Enough with the rumors!” Jones tweeted. ”While I am flattered about the speculation of being enticed out of retirement, I’m happy with life as a bad golfer!” Pretty much what everyone figured. ”I can imagine a lot of things in baseball,” Braves coach and former third baseman Terry Pendleton said, ”but Chipper playing for the Yankees isn’t one of them.” ”I think you’d have a lot of people in Atlanta pretty mad if that happened. He’s a man of his word and he says he’s done,” he said. ”But it might help the Yankees with their attendance. I think a lot of Mets fans would come over to Yankee Stadium to boo him.” So from the insert of this yahoo sports article … Chipper to the Yankees was something that Cashman himself floated out there but nothing happening on that front. Back to the drawing board for the Yankees. They need to find first baseman or third baseman but in either case knowing the Yankees they will fill that hole at either corner with something no one saw coming. But for know Chipper Jones to the Yankees is a case of don’t believe the hype.
