Free agent pitcher Chris Young appears close to rejoining the New York Mets, a source tells Andy Martino of the New York Daily News. The source went as far as to tell Martino that, “It will happen.” Young had narrowed his choices down to the Mets and Padres but prefers a return to the Mets. Young pitched in four games for the Mets last season before he suffered a season ending tear of the anterior capsule in his shoulder. Young and the Mets agreed to terms on January 17, 2011 on a $1.1mm deal with tons of incentives. Young missed five months of the 2010 season due to a shoulder injury. After his return, he made four starts going 2-0 with a 0.90 ERA over 20 innings. In 2011, Young was 1-0 with a 1.88 ERA in 24 innings. Mets Bullpen Taking Shape, Parnell and Batista In, Carrasco and Beato Out?

According to Andy Martino of the Daily News, Mets officials have told him that Bobby Parnell has emerged as a “very strong frontrunner” to earn a one of the final spots in the Mets bullpen, and the team sees the only true competition between relievers as Miguel Batista versus D.J. Carrasco – with Batista holding an advantage and Carrasco a candidate to be traded. Of the...

Individual goals make for a Mets team to believe in

Look around at what is transpiring in Port St. Lucie and you will see reasons to believe, but also reasons to think, “Here we go again”. Injuries are always a part of spring training. Think about when you start working out for the first time and some of the little injuries you would get, like pulling a muscle because you didn’t bend your knees when you were lifting that barbell...

Over at the Star Ledger, Andy McCullough has updates on a few of the injury plagued Mets. MLB Preview 2012: The New York Mets

Sigh. The Mets were my first love as a kid. My old man was a huge baseball fan and to this day, the best Mets fan I have ever met. Always positive, never booing them, no matter how bad they were. He was a season ticket holder in 1969, making the 2 1/2 hour drive on a regular basis to see them play. Once I was old enough to go, he bought 40 game plans and we spent entire summers...

Former Mets OF Jason Pridie suspended 50 games for violating minor-league drug program

The New York Mets left Jason Pridie off their 40-man roster in November, making him a free agent and available to sign with another team.  The 28-year-old outfielder caught on with the Oakland Athletics on a minor league deal, but his chances of making the club may have gone out the window with news that he has been suspended for 50 games. #bbpBox_178173163774033920 a { text-decoration...

M. Donald Grant, Chairman Of The Board

The person most responsible for the Mets’ worst years was probably M. Donald Grant. He is best known for sending Tom Seaver away, but his influence in the organization was a detriment toward building a competitive team, or keeping one, and things didn’t get better until he was out of the picture when the Mets were sold to Wilpon and Doubleday. Grant, a stockbroker, was Mrs. Payson’s...

GM Score – Sandy Alderson (Mets Only)

So, it’s been a while since I’ve done a GM score. It’s not from lack of time; it’s from more from lack of approval. I wasn’t crazy about my scoring. The main problem was there was a little more to the roster that the GM has impact on than just the moves. One example is keeping a player from a previous GM; Alderson is a prime example since he pretty much took over a roster...

Introduction And Random Thoughts

I am a new writer here, so I thought to start off, before talking Mets, I would introduce myself. I am a 19-year old college student. I have been a fan of the Mets my entire life, but sadly I have not been able to see them win it all. I have had the privilege to go to quite a few games, although I have only been able to go to one game at CitiField. Some of the memorable games Iâ...

Santana gave up two hits and an unearned run in his 42-pitch outing, walking two and striking out one. The run against him came in the third after an error by third baseman Ronny Cedeno...
