It was announced a couple days ago that former top prospect Brandon Wood was designated for assignment by the Angels. Wood has fallen off since being ranked as high as the #3 prospect in all of baseball after being drafted in the 1st round of the 2003 draft. In order to make room for Wood on the 40-man and Major League rosters, Rule V draftee Josh Rodriguez was designated for assignment, thus sending him back to the Cleveland Indians organization.
There was a ton of speculation the past few days saying the Bucs would make a claim for the once prized shortstop. All that speculation has since been proven true. There are a lot of mixed feelings on the move as it essentially comes down to Wood replacing Rodriguez. However, I think it comes down to a little more than just that.
