The story up to this point is that the Mets needed to make room on their 40 man for Rauch and Francisco, and in addition they needed to figure out who they would tender contracts to at the tender deadline. In the last 24 hours the Mets have completed the following moves: - Ronny Paulino non-tendered - Mike Baxter non-tendered - Mike Pelfrey Tendered - Manny Acosta Tendered - Ramon Ramirez Tendered - Andres Torres Tendered - Lucas Hay Signed - Jeremy Hefner Claimed - Garett Olson Signed Let's Break This Down: The Mets were expected to cut Paulino who never really fit on the team. The question now becomes how will the Mets deal with the back up catcher vacancy. They could sign a free agent, or they could save their money for an infielder (or one of the new pitchers that were just non-tendered by another team) and use Mike Nickeas as a back up catcher....

Mike Puma of the New York Post is reporting that Fernando Martinez‘s knee isn’t improving, and that the Mets are now considering moving him.
Puma says the Mets are hoping an American League team shows interest in the former Mets #1 prospect, but if there’s no interest they could possibly release him.
Martinez is hitting just .077 (2-for-26) with one RBI in nine games...

At the very least they would be in the market for a right handed center fielder to platoon with Torres should he look more like 2011 then 2010 or a power bat off the bench who could play better corner outfield then Murph. Johan Santana is a question mark because almost no one comes back from the surgery he had. Chien Ming Wang may be the first if he can continue at his pace. Chris Young couldn’t. Jake Peavy has to a point but he still visits the DL often. The problem is that he was always injury prone so it’s hard...

Multiple sources on Tuesday reported that the pitchers and catcher will have to report to spring training by February 20th. ESPN's Adam Rubin also noted that the teams first workout will take place on the 22nd. Position players will have to report no later than February 25th. Games will start less than two weeks later when the Mets host the Nationals on March 5th at 6:10pm.
