Found April 19, 2012 on Cub Reporter:
Gerardo Concepcion threw five innings, allowing two runs (one earned) on six hits and a walk with four strikeouts and two wild pitches, but the Giants rallied for three runs off two relievers and edged the Cubs 5-4 in Cactus League Extended Spring Training action this morning at Indian School Park Field #1 in Scottsdale, AZ.   This was Concepcion’s third Extended Spring Training appearance. He threw 36 pitches in his first outing and 69 in his second, before upping his pitch count to 88 today. Over 11.1 IP at EXST, Concepcion has allowed seven runs (six earned) on 14 hits and four walks, with 11 strikeouts, three wild pitches, and a 10/12 GO/FO. Concepcion is technically on the Daytona Cubs 7-day Disabled List, but he looks to be 100% healthy (as evidenced by his outing today). Here is the abridged box score from today’s game (Cubs players only): CUBS LINEUP: 1. Shawon Dunston Jr, CF: 1-4 (K, 1B, 1-3, 6-3, RBI)2. Brian Inoa, 2B: 2-4 (4-3, 4-3, 1B, 1B, SB, PO)3a. Cubs Recap for April 19, 2012

Big nights with the bat for Anthony Rizzo and Nate Samson, but not a win in the organization. @Marlins 5 - Cubs 3; A few brights spots in the game; the bullpen threw 4.1 innings of scoreless ball and they drew 3 walks off Nolasco. But Barney's bases clearing defense-assisted triple was the only big hit of the game and Samardzija was the Samardzija we all know and love. The one...

The Children Are the Future- Cubs Minor League Update Sponsored by Phillip Morris

Iowa It was a sloppy game for the Iowa Cubs as Vitters, Rizzo and Cardenas each committed an error. Brett Jackson went 1-5 with a triple and Nate Robertson continued his inspired campaign to be released within the first month. Smokies Rain Out Daytona There's just no way to sugarcoat it- Hayden Simpson was awful [...]

Cubs Dynamic Pricing Probably Not As Dynamic As They’d Like

I've been keeping an eye on the Cubs' bleacher ticket prices for a little over a week now because I got curious about how their dynamic pricing model is actually working out for them. Previously, I had hypothesized that overall revenues would not be taking so much of a hit, because the Cubs would be [...]

Wood to the DL, Dempster had an MRI, Sveum concerned about lack of home runs

I really don't know why this is news at this point, but Kerry Wood has returned to his home on the disabled list. Here's a news headline for you: Kerry Wood is healthy. Seriously, it's like his 97th time on the DL. Below is a pie chart showing the amount of time Wood has spent [...]

Cubs Rally to Avoid Double-Dip Sweep at Fitch Park

Neftali Rosario had three hits including a solo home run and a game-tying RBI single, as one squad of Cubs and one squad of Diamondbacks played to a 3-3 tie on Field #2, and Wilson Contreras singled, doubled, and tripled, but the other squad of D’backs clubbed Frank del Valle for six runs on nine hits en route to a 6-4 victory over the other squad of Cubs on Field #3, in a Cactus...

The Chicago Cubs are not good at baseball

After staring at a blank computer screen for quite some time trying to find the words to describe this season thus far, I realized that a blank piece of paper sums up the Chicago Cubs’ first 13 games better than anything else. Seriously though, the team is bad. I have just one question. Did any of you think something else was going to happen? We all knew this team was the opposite...

Cubs SS Castro won't be charged in assault claim

Cook County prosecutors said Friday they will not file charges against Chicago Cubs shortstop Starlin Castro for criminal sexual assault.Chicago police reviewed Castro's case and found insufficient evidence to charge the 21-year-old player.Chicago authorities began investigating an allegation against Castro in January."We're pleased for Starlin that this issue is resolved...

Cubs place Kerry Wood on 15-day DL

The Chicago Cubs placed reliever Kerry Wood on the 15-day disabled list Friday with right shoulder fatigue, retroactive to April 14. The 34-year-old righty struggled early this season, walking three batters on Opening Day while only retiring one, earning a blown save. He was charged with three runs and took the loss in his next appearance. The Cubs recalled left-handed reliever...

2003 Draft Still Not Working Out For Cubs

In 2003, the Chicago Cubs drafted center fielder Ryan Harvey with the No. 6 pick in the MLB Draft. Like most Cubs first-round picks, he didn’t even come close to the show, topping off with two and a half years in Double-A before leaving organized baseball in 2010 and attempting to resurface as a pitcher. And somehow he isn’t even the most disappointing Cub taken in the Top 10...

No charges filed against Castro in assault claim

The Chicago Cubs say the team is pleased shortstop Starlin Castro won't face charges criminal sexual assault. Cubs General Manager Jed Hoyer says the team is glad Castro can continue to keep his focus on baseball. Cook County prosecutors said Friday that they won't file charges against Castro. Spokeswoman Sally Daly says prosecutors and Chicago police reviewed the case and...

Your Weird Hockey Story Of The Day

via Rosemary R. Sobel of the Chicago Tribune, Emanuel Kuvakos, 56, was arrested Tuesday night and charged with three counts of misdemeanor harassment by electronic means, police said. Kuvakos sent “a number’’ of emails to Blackhawks CEO John McDonough and to Jim Hendry, the former general manager of the Chicago Cubs, that accused them of “stealing his ideas to win championships...

Series Preview: Cincinnati Reds (5-8) at Chicago Cubs (3-10)

The Cubs aren't the only NL Central team that's scuffling early on. The Reds were a somewhat populat favorite to win the central this year with Pujols gone and Carpenter hurt in St. Louis. However, their offense hasn't seemed to wake up yet. Aside from Joey Votto (obviously) and Zack Cosart (who?) their regulars have [...]

Wood Placed On 15-Day D.L.

Chicago Cubs right-handed pitcher Kerry Wood was placed on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to April 14th, with right shoulder fatigue.

Series notes: Chicago Cubs

This weekend features a series at Wrigley Field between two clubs that aren't exactly "setting the world on fire" right now. The host Cubs (3-10) enter Friday's affair riding a 5-game losing skid and a last place standing in the division. Meanwhile, Dusty Baker leads the Reds (5-8) into the Windy City hoping that a trio of games against the hapless Cubs will...

Game 13 Thread - Samardzija vs. Nolasco

Sorry, no time for a recap last night as I got caught up in that Cliff Lee vs. Matt Cain epic showdown. Anyway, Cubs lost in every way possible although they manage zero caught stealings or errors. Iowa lost 6-4, Valbeuna hit a home run and a double. Jackson and W. Castillo hit doubles as well. Jay Jackson gave up 5 in 5.2 IP. Tennessee split a doubleheader, each of the 7-inning...
