The Cubs have added outfielder Ryan Sweeney and reliever Rafael Dolis from Triple-A before their game against the Texas Rangers.
To make room for them Monday, Chicago designated reliever Kameron Loe for assignment and optioned outfielder Dave Sappelt to its affiliate in Iowa.
The 28-year-old Sweeney has spent time in the majors with the White Sox, Red Sox and Athletics. In 23 games this season at Iowa, Sweeney was hitting .337 with six home runs and 16 RBIs.
The right-handed Dolis has split his season between Triple-A and the Cubs, working a scoreless 1-3 of an inning for Chicago.
Loe was selected off waivers from Seattle on April 14, appearing in seven games with a 5.40 ERA. Sappelt has played in 20 games, hitting .178.

The Chicago Cubs have purchased the contract of outfielder Ryan Sweeney from their Triple-A Iowa minor league affiliate. While he won’t play a major role in the majors, he is a career .280 major league hitter. To make room for him the Cubs designated right-handed pitcher Kameron Loe for assignment. He will have to clear waivers if Chicago wants a shot at retaining his services...
Just by taking the field today the Iowa Cubs snapped their three-game skid at the hands of Mother Nature. Then they proceeded to hand Oklahoma City its first loss in a week by whipping the Redhawks 5-2 in the first game of a twinbill at Principal Park with a little help from rehabbing Kyuji Fujikawa.

With the summer trade deadline on the horizon, one arm to keep an eye on is Chicago Cubs right-handed starting pitcher Scott Feldman, according to Buster Olney of ESPN. With the Cubs clearly still rebuilding, Feldman is likely to become a trade chip if his impressive start continues.
The Cubs signed several veteran arms -- including Feldman, Edwin Jackson and Scott Baker -...
After Saturday’s loss, Chicago Cub fans have completely given up on Carlos Marmol, and manager Dale Sveum has been thrown into the fire right along with him. Fans are getting tired of seeing Marmol trotted out to the mound game after game, only to see him give fans heart attacks, and finding a way to grab defeat from the jaws of victory. They want Marmol gone from the team, and...
Chicago Cubs starting pitcher Matt Garza and reliever Kyuji
Fujikawa are both inching closer to returning to the big club. Both have been
successful in their Minor League rehab assignments, and neither has reported any
issues concerning their injuries that put them on the disabled list.
For Garza, the Number 1 concern is getting both his pitch
count and velocity up without...

Today is May 6th, 2013, 15 years to the day that something very special happened at Wrigley Field. In 1998, the Cubs made it to the playoffs as the National League wild card after a nine-year absence and when Sammy Sosa was going bonkers and helping North Siders and America love baseball again. But on May 6th, 1998, before Sammy’s power surge kicked in, a young pitcher making...
The Cubs are on their way to improving their record to a slightly-less bad but still very bad 12-20, a winning percentage of 0.375. Starlin Castro and Anthony Rizzo have been producing as of late, including fine performances on Monday in which Castro found a way to get on base four times and Rizzo clubbed two doubles and hit a home run as of the 8th inning.

So yay, the Cubs won! Woohoo! And just as in every other sport, performances in one game, whether it’s in a 16-game, 82-game or 162-game season, is enough to make broad sweeping statements about players. Take this, for example:

Travis Wood pitched impressively into the seventh inning to outduel Lance Lynn, Nate Schierholtz hit a two-run homer and the Chicago Cubs snapped the St. Louis Cardinals' six-game winning streak with a 2-1 victory Tuesday night.
The Cardinals' streak was their longest since an eight-game run July 11-21, 2010.
Wood (2-3) allowed one run and five hits while striking out eight...
The Cubs dropped thier third straight game yesterday. Two of the past three games where lost due to 4 run eighth inning. The bullpen has been the source of great frustration for the second straight start of a season, and I really don’t want to dwell on the obvious of Cubs need better relievers. Instead I want to talk about the #TeaseRally on Friday.
The Cubs were down four and...
