The Chicago Cubs have agreed to a three-year contract extension with assistant general manager Randy Bush.
The deal announced Tuesday runs through 2015.
Bush is entering his seventh season as assistant GM and ninth in the organization. He joined the club as a special assistant to the general manager before the 2005 season.
The Cubs also announced Tuesday they have hired former major leaguer David Bell as their third base coach and removed the interim tag from hitting coach James Rowson, completing manager Dale Sveum's staff.
Bell, the son of former major leaguer Buddy Bell and grandson of Gus Bell, spent the past four seasons managing and coaching third base in the Cincinnati Reds' minor league system. He replaces the fired Pat Listach.
Rowson replaced the fired Rudy Jaramillo on an interim basis in June after joining the organization as the minor league hitting instructor before the season.

Today the Cubs claimed former Twins first round pick (27th pick in 2008 draft) Carlos Gutierrez off waivers after he was outrighted. The 6-3" righty will be 26 next year and was in the midst of his third year at Triple A Rochester. Then his shoulder gave out, which led to arthriscopic surgery for a cleanup by Dr. Yocum in June. Claims are he will be ready for spring training...
The Cubs made it official and removed the interim tag from hitting coach James Rowson, who took over for one of last remaining Hendry scapegoats, Rudy Jamarillo. A bit surprising to me that they didn't end up hiring Dave Magadan, the Red Sox hitting coach during some of the Theo years, but Magadan must have decided that watching Texas Rangers baseball over the Cubs was a more...
The Cubs are in a little bit of the same boat as the Astros, who I just talked about an hour ago. They're not looking to start throwing around more Soriano-esque contracts, but because of the loyal fanbase and the oodles of money the franchise brings in, they're in a better position to pay for free agents if necessary...not that they *will*, though.
You know what...

The Chicago Cubs have claimed right-handed pitcher Carlos Gutierrez off waivers from the Minnesota Twins and designated catcher Anthony Recker for assignment.
Gutierrez has gone 15-20 with a 4.11 ERA in 136 appearances (32 starts) over five seasons in the Twins' minor league system. He was 2-2 with a 5.06 ERA in 10 relief appearances last season with Triple-A Rochester before...
Bell will be trading his Bats jersey in for a Cubs one.
It was only a one-year relationship between the Louisville Bats and David Bell as the 2012 manager has joined the coaching staff of the Chicago Cubs as third-base coach. He led the Bats to an awful 51-93 record during the 2012 season, in which the Bats seemed to be severely lacking in talent, in part due to offseason trading...
