The Last Angry Fan:
Cubs fan celebrating a Cubs win with an upside-down “W” sign. Seriously, how long does it take to see if you’re holding your sign up properly, like two seconds? Then again, when you’re rooting for the Cubbies, chances are you haven’t had much practice holding up a “W” sign, which would explain why this poor guy failed miserably. Well, the Cubs didn't trade anyone today. With DeJesus and Schierholtz in the fold for 2014 (though either could be traded in the offseason, I really doubt it), the Cubs 2014 roster (with no signings) looks like this:
C: Welington Castillo
1B: Anthony Rizzo
2B: Darwin Barney
SS: Starlin Castro
3B: Mike Olt
LF: Junior Lake
CF: David DeJesus
RF: Nate Schierholtz

Mike Olt was 1-4 with a strikeout. Logan Watkins was 1-5. As I said, only 2 people actually play offense on this team. I think starting next Friday, I'm going to take a vacation from Iowa box scores and just write about anything more interesting (which, coincidentally, is anything).
Barret Loux was doing pretty well until the 6th, when the wheels...
According to Jed Hoyer, the Cubs were never close to trading Jeff Samardzija. They were demanding a significant package in return as you would expect. No team was willing to match that so the Cubs just kept Samardzija and plan to work out an extension with him this off-season.
If the Cubs are unable to reach a deal with Samardzija, they may trade him according to multiple outlets...
Baseball players who are likely to be dealt at the deadline battle a multitude of emotions about the life-changing move — but they aren’t the only ones affected by the trades.
David DeJesus, an outfielder for the Chicago Cubs was a name that was floated around in trade rumors throughout the past couple of weeks, and although the Cubs found new homes for many of their starters...
Today, we continue profiling minor league prospects on the rosters of the Chicago Cubs three upper level teams: Iowa, Tennessee and Daytona. In a few days, we will examine prospects on the Cubs’ lower-tier teams of Kane County, Boise and Arizona.
Jae-Hoon Ha: The right handed hitting and throwing Ha, was signed by the Cubs out of his native South Korea in September...
In the comments today, we were talking about the 2014 Cubs thanks to a post by Myles. I mentioned that I would not be surprised to see Arismendy Alcantara make the team out of spring training. I still think it’s more likely he starts in AAA Iowa, but it won’t surprise me. I didn’t see the Cubs spending much, or anything at 2nd base, or the rest of the infield for that matter...
Iowa Cubs 4 @ Salt Lake Bees 5
Ty Wright went 2-2 with 2 homers. Mike Olt has a .249 OPS and has an ISO of 0 over his last ten. Edwin Mayonnaise had a double. Nobody else is remotely worth mentioning.
Tennessee Smokies 0 @ Jacksonville Suns 1
Matt Szczur was 2-4. Arismendy Alcantara was 1-4 with a SB and has yet to really work his way out of the cold snap he's been in lately...
In this edition of the Future Alert, I’d like to update the WSD Top 13 Prospect List, compare our farm system today to it at various points over the past year and a half, and catch up on the latest news across the Cubs system.
Eloy Jimenez - The Cubs made their long-awaited signing of #1 international prospect Eloy Jimenez, and outfielder from the Dominican Republic. The Cubs...
Eloy Jimenez officially announced his signing with the Cubs today in a press conference in the Dominican Republic. The move has been long-rumored, but the Cubs asked him to wait until after the trade deadline to make it official.

The Chicago Cubs today named Single-A Kane County Cougars first baseman Dan Vogelbach and Double-A Tennessee Smokies pitcher Matt Loosen the organization’s minor league player and pitcher of the month for July.
The walk-up music for Dan Vogelbach says it all. Whenever the Kane County Cougars first baseman comes up to bat, the Stadium audio blares the “BIG BOY” snippet from...
Although trade conversations really didn't go anywhere the Chicago Cubs did listen to offers for starter Jeff Samardzija before the non-wavier deadline expired Wednesday.
In the real world of baseball business it is incumbent upon top executives to listen to offers on any and all of their players. In the sensitive world of long-term contracts and player control the issues can...

Mike Olt went 0-4. Jae-Hoon Ha went 2-3 with a walk. No one else played so don't even look. I seriously considered linking that score to a rick roll.
Justin Grimm had a pretty forgettable 5 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 3 BB, 5 SO start. Casey Coleman was dicey in his scoreless frame, but then Marcus Hatley allowed 4 runs in 0.2 innings. Ick. Marcos Mateo, newly...
Edwin Jackson pitched eight solid innings, David DeJesus drove in three runs and the Chicago Cubs beat the Milwaukee Brewers 6-1 on Wednesday night to salvage the finale of the four-game series.
Anthony Rizzo hit a two-run homer and Starlin Castro belted a solo shot as Chicago closed out a 14-13 July, its first winning calendar month since it went 15-10 last July. Jackson allowed...
For some reason, the Chicago Cubs did a Lucha Libre wrestling mask giveaway Tuesday night when they took on the Milwaukee Brewers. So, naturally, WWE Superstar (and noted Cubs fan) CM Punk was on hand to cheer on los Cachorros.
Oh, they also let him sing "Take Me Out to the Ballgame".
Unfortunately, the beer makers put the smack down (see what I did there?) on...
