With the Cubs pretty much set with most of their roster for the 2012 season, save the couple of players that they are rumored to be willing to trade, what’s left for the Cubs are the depth signings to battle for bench spots and spend most of their time toiling in Triple A.
They already signed Alfredo Amezaga to a minor league deal last week, giving them a super utility guy to add to the mix for spring training.
This week, the Cubs added a couple more recognizable names that are more likely to be spending much of their time in 2012 over in Iowa.
The first signing was Rodrigo Lopez, obviously a familiar face to the Cubs. Chicago dealt for him last season after their experimenting with Casey Coleman and James Russell in the rotation didn’t go so well. And don’t forget about Doug Davis.
