Found January 15, 2013 on Friarhood:
Here we are with another quiet day on the Padres side of things. The biggest news in San Diego right now is that Mike McCoy is going to be the new head coach for the Chargers. This is coming a matter of weeks after the season ended for the Chargers. What have the Padres done in the matter of months after the season ended? Yeah that’s what I thought. My frustration isn’t coming from the fact that we have been quiet, the frustration is coming from the fact that we haven’t done anything to improve. I am hoping that some of the in house guys step up this season and break through. This means that Nick Hundley is going to need to have a better season to make up for Yasmani Grandal’s absence. It will also mean that whenever we call up guys like Gyorko or Liriano, they are going to need to be studs out of the gate. It’s kind of hard to not make a move with a fourth place team and hope they improve next season. That’s just my thoughts and I’m sure you all have your own. Leave a comment below...

Padres Avoid Arbitration With Will Venable

According to The Union Tribune (via twitter), the Padres have avoided arbitration with Will Venable agreeing to $2.675 million for 2013. Venable is coming off a 2012 where in 417 at bats he posted a .264/.335/.429 slash line while hitting 9 home runs and driving in 45 RBIs. These numbers have been on par with what he has been capable of for most of his career so far. Will split time...

It’s About Time: The All-Star Game at Petco

The Padres are asking to host an All-Star Game. As a Padre fan I’d like to say: what the heck too so long?  And don’t tell me that we got the World Baseball Classic instead, that is not a fair trade. I can’t say I remember the 1978 Mid-Summer Classic (I was busy being born that month).  I do remember the buzz created by the game in 1992.  The team was pretty good that year...

Three for the Show: Catchers

This is the first in a 10-part series where I will identify the top three players at each position in the Padres’ minor league system. Up first: Catchers. The depth chart at catcher is certainly an area that presents an opportunity for improvement. The gap between the haves and the have nots for this position is fairly substantial. There are two to three guys who have the potential...

Two, yes I said two, articles have come from Corey Brock on Padres.com explaining some stuff that is happening this week. Also the team is finally going to try and do something about the issue with Time Warner (about time). There is also news on the pitching side of things with the team. According...

Daily Friar 1.14.13

Some news is popping up today now that is Monday. Hey I guess even MLB front offices take the weekends off during their offseason. There are a bunch of great articles today, including three from the “where are they now” category. Also I generally don’t like putting multiple articles from the same website up, but today I am making an exception to that rule as I have two from...
