It is known that the Padres are looking for starting pitching depth. Preferably they are looking for someone that can come cheap, or someone that they can get via trade that won’t take a lot to get. I understand the Padres philosophy of waiting for the right piece, but if they wait any longer there won’t be a right piece left. I for one am tired of minor league signings in hopes of them making the major league squad. The Padres are stuck in the small ball ideal that they have to catch lightning in a bottle for something to work. This makes sense when they have been linked to guys like Dice-K, or last season with Ross Ohlendorf, Jason Marquis, Jeff Suppan and Eric Stults. I bring this up because we all know about the Greinke signing for the Dodgers. Well now they have also signed Korean left-hander Hyun-Jin Ryu.
