Let me start off by apologizing for not having a Daily Friar for you all yesterday. Life tends to get in the way at times and thus this fell onto the back burner. Today is a new day and with it comes a new Daily Friar. It also continues the very quiet offseason that the Padres are having in that so many other teams are making headlines, and the Padres are still looking for that one starting pitcher to help them out. Cameron Maybin even said on his twitter that he would love to see Edwin Jackson as a Padre. This I could see as definitely happening, in that he has history with Josh Byrnes and AJ Hinch, and he is a pretty dependable pitcher. He is not injury prone (only been injured once in his career) and he has been consistently good over this period as well. It remains to be seen if the Padres can make a play for him. The big trade yesterday happened between the Reds, Diamondbacks and Indians as Shin-Soo Choo is now a Red and Drew Stubbs is now an Indian. The DBacks received a handf...
BEST OF MAXIM
Juan Pablo Oramas
On November 30th, the Padres non-tendered Juan Pablo Oramas (Ranked as the #20 prospect on Friarhood.com, Ranked as the #12 prospect heading into 2012 by Baseball America). Ten days later (12/10/12) the Padres were able to sign the 22-year old southpaw that is rehabbing from Tommy John surgery.
Here is what our own Peter Friberg had to say about Oramas heading...
According to Corey Brock via twitter, the Padres have acquired LHP Chris Rearick for utility INF Vince Belnome. Belnome a former teammate of Jedd Gyorko at West Virginia was known for his plate discipline, but with the logjam of infielders right now in the Padres system, he was unlikely to get a shot anytime soon.
The #Padres have traded for...

Josh Hamilton would look great in a Padres uniform… in 2013. I ask before you react, at least hear me out on this one.
Is it late? Yes
Am I drinking? Yes, milk.
Have I lost my mind? Always a possibility.
Do I think Hamilton is Mr. Right? No
Do I think Hamilton is Mr. Right Now? YES!
I do believe that Padres fans are...
The Padres recently just added Willie Blair to the coaching staff. Now, I really don't have a "flair", but it is good to see the Padres keep ex-players in the coaching ranks. I also love the band Fountains of Wayne, so the announcemet, for some reason, made me think of their song "I've Got A Flair". Anyway, it also brings back fond memories of...
Yesterday was a fairly quiet day all around baseball compared to the days before with trades and whatnot. Yeah there were some signings, but most were minor, or pretty obvious that they were going to happen. For instance, Ichiro resigned with the Yankees and the Giants resigned Andres Torres. Torres was with the Giants for two years before being traded for Angel Pagan, but now he...
In yesterday’s post about the fallout from the Josh Hamilton signing, I noted that the Angels could use Peter Bourjos as a pretty attractive trade chip, and predictably, a decent amount of people responded that Bourjos is nothing more than a fourth outfielder or defensive replacement because he can’t hit. This sentiment has been around for a while, since Bourjos came up and...
