The Padres' homestand didn't go as planned. They dropped the rubber match last night against the Diamondbacks and went 2-5 to start the season. They hit the road this weekend starting a series with the Dodgers. Hopefully (and I have been using this word a lot lately) they will be able to break out of this funk while on the road. We get to face Aaron Harang, who we did well against last time. But we also have to deal with Matt Kemp and Andre Ethier again. And who knows, maybe Nick Hundely will finally get a hit. Here are your Padres links for today:

Auspicious start sours on Padres - Padres.com
" But that hopeful start quickly dissolved into another frustrating loss as a familiar offensive funk led to a 3-1 setback in front of 20,858 at Petco Park."
Don't blame Petco for Hundley's slow start - Union Tribune
"Hundley said he can’t remember starting a season at any level with 19 straight at-bats without a hit."
Secrecy can't mask the problems in TV deal - NCT
"In one of the worst-kept secrets in the history of secrets, the Padres and Fox have agreed on a 20-year deal. It would, however, be nice for the parties to reveal the details."
Who's hot in the Padres system? - Chicken Friars
"The minor league season is a week underway, and there are a few players that are opening eyes in the system. Here are a few guys that are off to promising starts."
Britt McHenry leaves FSSD - insidethepadres
"I'm told McHenry was homesick and that the gig here wasn't working out for either side."
Great article on former Padre Justin Germano learning from Greg Maddux - Providence Journal
"The more receptive Maddux was to the questions Germano threw at him, the more questions Germano came up with."
Bud Black press conference from yesterday - Gaslamp Ball
"The Padres, or any team, can't afford to make misplays. Especially when you go against somebody like Ian Kennedy. Not hitting well enough to overcome those misplays."
MadFriars has an interview with Austin Hedges
"Although Austin Hedges was drafted in the second round of the 2011 draft most baseball pundits considered him the Padres’ top pick not only on the basis of his talent but on the $3 million dollar bonus he was given to forgo his scholarship to UCLA."
Jeremy Nash has a breakdown of the series with the D-Backs - Friarhood
"San Diego had a chance in all three games to win, but totaled five runs in three games on only 17 hits, losing two of three from first place Arizona."
Road, sweet road? - Friarhood
"Well that didn’t go exactly as planned. But fear not, friar faithful, our beloved men of the cloth are taking their show on the road."

Top 5 second basemen in Padres History
During the 2012 season we’ll be looking at the top five players in Padre history at each position. The first rule: we will only consider the players’ time with the Padres, so Mike Piazza doesn’t count because he was only here for 1 year. I have set a completely arbitrary minimum of 200 games with the Padres. The other rule: players will be considered for their primary position...

Man in reporters' booth snags foul ball
A man in the front row of the reporters booth behind home plate at Petco Park caught a foul ball Tuesday night as the San Diego Padres hosted the Arizona Diamondbacks. Your browser does not support iframes. It happened in the top of the fourth inning as Diamondbacks third baseman Ryan Roberts hit a high foul ball behind home plate. The man, with an MLB.com laptop, stood up to...

Baseball teams grounds crew has a dance-off
These baseball grounds keepers are multi-talented.
Check out the dance routine this San Diego Padres minor league team’s ground crew performs mid-inning while taking care of the field. The self-proclaimed “Bad Apple Dancers” perform their routine for adoring fans at the class A Fort Wayne Tincaps games. While this dancing may be entertaining, I question how effectively these...
Daily Friar 4.12.12
The Padres won for the second time this season yesteday. The pitching was stellar, but the offense (as usual) was not. As a team they are batting under .200. The only bright spot in the offense was Chris Denorfia's homerun in the bottom of the 8th to give the Padres the lead, and ultimately the win. Holding the Dbacks to 1 run is no easy feet, even in Petco, so kudos to the pitching...

MadFriars' Farm Report: April 11
Big day for Casey Kelly, but similar to Joe Saunders he left empty handed. Missions enjoyed a day of rest after a tough opening homestand. The Storm were joined by Mark Kotsay, who managed to lift the spirit but not help the team. Finally Fort Wayne ran into top draft pick Archie Bradley in a pitcher’s duel in South Bend.

Daily Friar 4.14.12
I was in LA last night. Not for the game, but for a concert. I was however following the game on my phone and I was impressed that I saw a number higher than 2 next to the Padres. I was then impressed that we were able to tie the game up when it came to the 9th inning. Then all hell broke loose. It is sad how the Dodgers won that game. They didn't even have to put up a fight...
Harang breaks Dodgers record with 9 straight Ks
Dodgers pitcher Aaron Harang has struck out nine straight batters, setting a franchise record for one game.
Harang gave up a leadoff single to Cameron Maybin before striking out the next nine San Diego Padres batters Friday night, breaking Johnny Podres' club record of eight in a row set against the Philadelphia Phillies on July 2, 1962. Harang's streak ended when Will Venable...
Dugout Digest - Aaron Harang dominates
When you think of dominant pitchers who have the ability to strike out nine batters in a row, I bet one of the last names that would pop up into your mind is Aaron Harang. Yet last night, as the Dodgers took on the Padres, Harang struck out nine Padres in a row, and a total of 12 over 6 1/3 innings in Los Angeles's 9-8 win. Of course, Harang didn't get credit for a win...
Dodgers 9, Padres 8
Aaron Harang set a Dodgers record with nine consecutive strikeouts, one short of the major league mark, and Los Angeles beat the San Diego Padres 9-8 Friday night on four straight walks in the bottom of the ninth inning.
Harang tied his career high with 13 strikeouts in 6 1-3 innings and the Dodgers won their fourth in a row. They lead the majors with a 7-1 record, their best start...
