I think we may have watched one of the most frustrating Padres games last night. The Astros are a terrible team plain and simple. Yes I know the Padres are bad too, but this is a team that we should be beating easily. And yet we couldn't string together the hits to get anyone across to score. Another game with an 0'fer in the RISP numbers. It saddens me that we can out hit the other team, and yet not be able to score a measily little run. Or maybe this is falling right into the Padres' plans, let them win the first game and then we'll show them what we are really made of. Just like the Dodgers series before this allowing them to win 6-0, then slaughtering them the next two games. Hopefully we can pull off a win tonight. "I wanted to try something different," Everth Cabrera said Saturday night while explaining a play that major league baseball hadn't witnessed for 30 seasons. Cabrera was standing off third in the ninth inning Saturday night with the Padres down by a run and down to their final strike. When Dodgers reliever Kenley Jansen turned his back to the plate to clean the dirt...

Sore knee could hurt Quentin's trade value

Left fielder Carlos Quentin caused a stir Monday night when he was a late scratch from the San Diego Padres lineup. The social media immediately lit up with rumors. Most had the slugger being traded. As it turned out, that was not the case. But there could be cause for concern. Quentin's knee is sore. Monday marked the first time that Quentin has been removed from the...

It's always easier to write this after the Padres win. Which is exactly what they did last night after beating up on the Astros. It appears that the Padres are putting the formula to work of getting shut out the first game then pounding the opposing team into the ground after that. Last night's win came in the form of timely and productive hitting. The team went 5-9 with...

Happ and three relievers combined on a five-hitter, Scott Moore drove in two runs and Houston beat the San Diego Padres 2-0 Monday night to snap a 13-game slide away from home. Jose Altuve doubled and scored twice to help Houston stop its longest road skid since dropping 14 straight...

Daily Friar 7.16.12

The Padres are starting their second half campaign on the right foot. We know that the playoffs are essentially out of the question for this club. That is unless they go on a Herculean, Colorado Rockies run and make it in on the last day of the season. So our role now is to play spoliers to the teams that we have grown to hate. The Dodgers were the first to feel this wrath as the...

Padres 7, Dodgers 2

Chase Headley homered for the second straight game, and the San Diego Padres used six unearned runs to beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 7-2 on Sunday. Cameron Maybin and Everth Cabrera scored the tying and go-ahead runs on third baseman Jerry Hairston Jr.'s second throwing error of the seventh inning. The Padres were trailing 2-1 with nobody on and two outs in the seventh when...

Tuesday Trade Rumors: Justin Upton, Chase Headley, and Carlos Quentin

A few more things came out today involving trade rumors and the Pirates. Let’s start with Justin Upton.
