How does it feel to be a fan of one of the hottest teams in baseball right now? I for one love what the Padres have been doing of late on the field, they are executing on offense and the pitching has been superb. Like I said yesterday, one of my biggest fears was that the team wouldn't be able to pitch as well at Chase Field. But both Eric Stults and Clayton Richard have been superb giving that bullpen a lot of rest. Today they are going for the sweep with Edinson Volquez on the hill. Let's hope that it is the finely tuned Eddy we get today. One side note: how much did it hurt seeing Adiran Gonzalez hit that homerun for the Dodgers yesterday? Yeah that's what I thought. Here are your Padres links for today:

Power plays, Richard bests D-Backs - Padres.com
"Chase Headley, Yonder Alonso and former D-back Carlos Quentin each hit solo home runs, and the Padres got out of a jam in the fifth inning with fine defense on their way to a 9-3 win, their fifth consecutive victory at Chase Field this season."
Continuity key to Padres' progress - Union Tribune
"Aside from Grandal’s 16-day trip to the disabled list, the Padres cast has been the same but for one day since June 30. And only 18 position players have been used since the mid-May elimination of middle infielders Jason Bartlett and Orlando Hudson in favor of Alexi Amarista and Everth Cabrera."
CBS Sports has a preview of today's game
"Before this season, the San Diego Padres had never recorded a sweep in Arizona. Now they are on the verge of their second one in 2012."
Tom Krasovic has a piece on Monday's starter Casey Kelly
"On Monday, the Padres will unveil their top pitching prospect, Casey Kelly, who will start against the Braves at Petco Park. You'll recall, the Padres acquired Kelly in the Gonzalez trade two offseasons ago."
Waiver pick-up is win win for righty Thad Weber, Padres - Arizona Daily Star
"After so many years of relative stability, Weber suddenly has an uncertain future. He will probably finish out the Triple-A season with the Padres, but the future is wide open after that."
Tom Seidler's family back in the big leagues - Great Falls Tribune
"Tom Seidler, who was the general manager of the Great Falls Dodgers from 1994-96, is part of a group that recently purchased the San Diego Padres."
Adrian Gonzalez is back in the NL West - Chicken Friars
"Boston was a good destination for Gonzalez. Its a great hitters park, and I could admire his talents from afar. Well, now I have to root against mighty Adrian, something that seems weird to me."
Daily Farm Round-Up: 8-25-12 - Alex Bartlett of The Friarhood
"Jedd Gyorko continues to tear the cover off of the ball as he hits his 5th home run over the last 6 days and the Padres win 3-1. Adys Portillo continues his struggles with San Antonio as the Missions fall to the Hooks 5-2. The Storm had an offensive explosion as 5 different players recorded 3 hits and the Storm win 11-3."

D-backs lose the touch against Padres' Stults
PHOENIX When the Diamondbacks beat Eric Stults in San Diego on June 3, Gerardo Parra let an elderly woman sitting in the front row of Petco Park touch his bat to bring him luck. He homered for the final two runs in a 6-0 victory. Nothing approached that level of good fortune Friday.
Needing to mount a good run to get back into the NL West race, the D-backs managed only three singles...
VIDEO: Everth Cabrera makes a crazy diving play

In the bottom of the eighth inning of Sunday's 5-4 Padres win over the Diamondbacks, Justin Upton hit a grounder deep into the hole between shortstop and third base. Everth Cabrera of the Padres made the stop on the outfield grass, and threw a laser over to first base to get Upton by a step. Cabrera made the throw from a few feet...

SAN DIEGO (AP) -- Casey Kelly combined with three relievers on a four-hitter to win his major league debut and Yasmani Grandal hit a two-run homer for the San Diego Padres, who beat the Atlanta Braves 3-0 on Monday night to extend their season-high streak to eight straight wins.

Padres sweep D-backs as playoff pressure mounts
PHOENIX -- This was supposed to be the easy part. The Diamondbacks on Sunday wrapped up a stretch of 10 games against teams with losing records but only won half those contests.
The San Diego Padres capped the seemingly favorable stretch Sunday by finishing off a three-game sweep with a 5-4 win. It was the second time since the All-Star break the D-backs were swept by an opponent...
Kennedy, D-backs aim to get even vs. Padres
Arizona's Ian Kennedy and San Diego's Clayton Richard have both struggled with inconsistency this season.
However, that has not been the case for each when facing the other's ballclub.
Kennedy and Richard each look to continue their respective success against their opponent when the visiting Padres try to match a season high with a sixth consecutive victory Saturday...
D-backs send Saunders to avoid sweep

Madfriars' Daily Farm Report: August 26
Andrew Cashner had a strong second rehab outing on an ugly day for the Padres system. The bats were completely shut down in Tucson, San Antonio and Fort Wayne, and only slightly better even in the hitters' paradise of Lancaster. Eugene pulled out the system's only victory.
Daily Friar 8.25.12
One of my biggest fears coming into this Arizona series was whether or not the pitching would be able to do its job. Well, if Eric Stults' performance is any indication then the pitching should be just fine. He did outstanding last night in more ways than one. I also figured that the offense would have no trouble scoring runs, but I didn't expect that the number 9 hole would...
Lake Elsinore Player and Pitcher of the Month: July 2012
Last season we noted the injury of catcher Tommy Medica and the surgery that followed. Since coming back from that injury Medica has mostly been used as a DH/1B as he continued to rehab his shoulder and never gave up on the idea of catching in the future. Medica has caught one game this season but continues to play most of his games as a DH/1B. Obviously his shoulder has not come...
