According to Andy Martino of the Daily News, a team source has indicated that Willie Harris and Scott Hairston will not be resigned until much later in the off-season, “if they are resigned at all.” Martino adds, however, that Harris “became a clubhouse leader and one of manager Terry Collins’ favorites, so a return is not impossible.” Harris, 33, appeared in 126 games for the Mets last season, during which he played all three outfield positions and second and third base, while hitting just .246 with 13 extra base hits in 240 at bats. Hairston, 31, hit .235 with 16 extra base hits and just 24 RBI in 79 games for the Mets, while playing all three outfield positions and one game at second base. Brian Erni: I do like the versatility Harris gives the Mets defensively. Being able to rely on his strong defense late in games is a plus, and could help a bullpen that may be in flux again in the coming year.
