Dale Sveum has been hired as the new manager of the Chicago Cubs, according to USA Today. The Cubs will hold a news conference on Friday morning at 10 AM to introduce Sveum.
Sveum, who was the Red Sox third base coach from 2004-2005, was also considered a finalist for the managerial opening here in Boston but never received an offer from the Sox' front office.
Sveum's only experience as a major league manager came in 2008, when he managed the Milwaukee Brewers for the final 12 regular-season games, plus four playoff games.
Sveum has served as the Brewers' hitting coach for the past six years. His contract in Chicago is reportedly for three-years plus an option.
With Sveum out of the running for the job in Boston, that leaves Blue Jays first-base coach Torey Lovullo, Indians bench coach Sandy Alomar Jr. and Tigers third-base coach Gene Lamont as the current group of candidates for the Fenway dugout. GM Ben Cherington has not ruled out the po...

Prince Fielder Would be a Terrible Mistake For the Chicago Cubs
With Dale Sveum now the manager of the Chicago Cubs, Prince Fielder is now likely to land in Chicago to play for the Cubs. Of course, that depends on who you talk too. I know 99% of the Cubs fan base would love to see this happen. I am part of the 1%- (pun intended).
Prince Fielder is one of the best sluggers around. I will happily admit that. He’s a below average first basemen...

Players A to Z, Koyie Hill
Koyie Hill catches in a backup capacity for the Chicago Cubs. Hill owns an extremely poor major league hitting record, with both his career OBP and slugging percentage below .300. With hitting like that one would expect him to be a defensive wizard. That wizardry turns out to be tough to detect, and both Baseball Reference and FanGraphs rate his defense poorly. He’s slightly...
