Ruf will complete 2012 in Reading says Phils' scouting director Jordan. Photo by: Ian Riccaboni Darin Ruf, age 26, is no longer a traditional prospect. Playing at a level that he is considered too old for, Ruf was expected to put up big numbers for the R-Phils. But something strange has happened: those big numbers have turned into gigantic numbers and Ruf is now the talk of the Phillie developmental world. Ruf has smashed 11 HRs in 13 games for the R-Phils including HRs in five straight games. With 19 games left to play, Ruf needs just 9 HRs to tie Ryan Howard‘s single-season R-Phils mark. While Ruf was an Eastern Leauge All-Star for the R-Phils, his power explosion was a bit unexpected. Ruf, at 6’3″, 220 lbs, is a big man out of Creighton University who, in four minor league seasons, has posted an impressive .304/.384/.509 SLG%. Yet, much of that slugging has come in 2011 and 2012. Ruf hit 17 HRs last year for Clearwater and has 29 already this season for Reading. His power ...

Record-Setting Night Highlighted by Solid Pitching

There was an awful lot going on in last night’s 1-0 Phillies win over the Marlins. And it all began with just the second pitch of the game which Jimmy Rollins sent screaming over the right field wall for the 41st lead-off homer of his career. That turned out to be the only run of the game, which was also a record-setting game for Rollins. He picked up his 1,731st game at shortstop...

Hope is Gone, Phillies spanked by Marlins, 9-2

Make no mistake: They are playing out the string toward an October without postseason baseball in Philadelphia for the first time in six years. The Phillies were trailing by one when the eighth inning began, and Manuel summoned righthander B.J. Rosenberg, who had an 8.53 ERA in six appearances. By the time the inning mercifully ended, Miami had sent 10 men to the plate and scored...

Pregame: Phillies Start Up Series Against the Brew Crew

Any series win is a good one at this point but wow, was yesterday's game painful. Save for Halladay who threw a half decent seven innings, the team just looked asleep, highlighted by the talk of the town today that Rollins could have spun the wheels a bit harder. I don't know. I can't get worked up about stuff like that in a lost season. It looked like Pierre was...
