PLAYERS: Darwin Barney
TEAMS: Chicago Cubs
Your browser does not support iframes. Chicago Cubs second baseman Darwin Barney crashed into a bullpen bench while attempting a sliding catch of a foul popup during the top of the fifth inning of Friday afternoon's game at Wrigley Field. Barney ran from the infield to chase down the popup in right field foul territory by Cincinnati Reds batter Zach Cozart, along with right fielder Nate Schierholtz and first baseman Anthony Rizzo. None of them got to the ball, although Barney made an extra effort to lunge for the ball, causing him to lose his balance and tumble into the bench. Fortunately, Barney was able to walk away from the crash and continue the game. Unfortunately, however, Barney also had a rough game at the plate, going 0 for 5. Barney had a chance to be a hero when he came up with the Cubs down 6-5 in the bottom of the ninth with two outs and the bases loaded, but he struck out to end the game. Video via MLB.com. Cubs’ Julio Borbon Fakes Being Hit by Pitch in Hilariously Bad Fashion (Animation)

When playing for a team as hopeless as the Cubs, sometimes embellishing a bit to your advantage isn’t the worst idea. That’s what Chicago center fielder Julio Borbon was thinking Thursday afternoon, at least, but his acting skills could use some serious work. When a pitch from San Diego’s Luke Gregerson landed in the dirt near his feet, Borbon hopped up and down as if the ball...

During Thursday's Padres/Cubs affair at Wrigley, Borbon was facing Padres pitcher Luke Gregerson and pulled off one of the worst acting jobs in MLB history. Watch as a Gregerson pitch goes a tad outside and fails to hit Bourbon but that doesn't stop Julio from acting...

Saturday game thread: Reds (16-14) v. Cubs (11-18)

Before yesterday's bottom of the ninth, Aroldis Chapman had allowed 5 hits, 2 walks, and 1 measly run over 13.1 IP. Friday, the Cubs got to him for 4 hits, 2 BB, and 3 runs in just two-thirds of an inning, and his ERA jumped from 0.68 to 2.57. It was also just the second time in 17 career appearances v. the Cubs that Chapman has been scored upon at all. Thus, I am counting yesterday...

#TeaseRallies are unsatisfying

The Cubs dropped thier third straight game yesterday. Two of the past three games where lost due to 4 run eighth inning. The bullpen has been the source of great frustration for the second straight start of a season, and I really don’t want to dwell on the obvious of Cubs need better relievers.
