Is there a magician on the New York Mets?  David Murphy obviously did not play Powerball last night because there was no winner of the $550 million jackpot.  Based off of his hit last night, though, he should have played – and he probably would have won.  After smacking a deep line drive against the Cardinals last night into the right field corner, Murphy somehow managed to perfectly squeeze the baseball into a crack in the wall that would make even Bozo go crazy.  Finding what is probably the only seam in the entire field, Murphy slid his double right through the wall – much to the amazement and bewilderment of Carlos Beltran and his snazzy sunglasses. Matt Harvey – Enjoy it While You Can Mets Fans

TweetIn today’s 3-2 victory over the Cubs, Matt Harvey once again proved the validity of our 20% Theory of Mets games as he won for the fifth time this season against no loses – but he basically had to do it all himself, as not only did he retire 17 of the last 18 batters he faced, but also drove in the game winner with an RBI single in the seventh. He struck out 6, and all six...

Mets Minors Report 5/18: Puello On A Hot Streak, Wheeler Hits DL, Mejia Makes Rehab Start

Last Night’s Quick Scores Las Vegas defeated Omaha, 7-3. Binghamton took down Portland, 6-3. St. Lucie was edged by Bradenton, 5-4. Savannah was one-hit by Augusta, 11-0. Prospect Pipeline Jenrry Mejia made his first “real” rehab start in St. Lucie last night where he lasted three innings. He threw only 61 pitches, and threw 41 of them for strikes, which was a good sign...

Vaughn’s Grand Slam, Puello’s 3 RBIs Propel B-Mets To 9-4 Win

Binghamton 9, Akron 4 Cory Vaughn highlighted a six-run fifth inning with a grand slam as the B-Mets came from behind to beat the Akron Aeros, 9-4 Wednesday night at NYSEG Stadium. The win gave Binghamton the series sweep, and their fourth consecutive victory overall. For the third straight night, the Akron offense struck first against Binghamton pitching. In the fourth, Carlos Moncrief...

Should Zach Lutz Get a Chance While Ike Davis Struggles?

The early season struggles of Ike Davis have been well-documented. Following his second four-strikeout game of the season yesterday against the St. Louis Cardinals, he’s now hitting an awful .157/.245/.268 in 127 at-bats. That line is hard to look at, but it gets even harder when you realize it only includes four home runs, nine RBIs, and 45 strikeouts. I’ve been in favor of...

Alderson Needs To Take Action Now On Distractions

We are getting perilously close to the time in the baseball season where free-falling clubs tend to fire their manager. Should the Mets sack Terry Collins in the wake of his ripping the fans – who by the way, aren’t coming out to Citi Field these days – they can claim justifiability, but would be making a mistake. Like many quick-fixes, it will not work. Despite Collins...

Mets Never Made Hairston Any Offer

Adam Rubin of ESPN New York writes a column about how the Mets went about building their current outfield which started with a joke and ended with a joke in my opinion. Rubin spoke with Scott Hairston who dismissed rumors that the Mets had made him an offer, but understood the situation and respected Sandy Alderson’s decision. “There were times where I wasn’t sure what they...

Alderson Needs To Take Action On Distractions Before It’s Too Late

The Mets’ Craig Swan Song

“This is Craig Swan bad for these Mets.”             Say what you will about longtime WFAN sports commentator Mike Francesa, but he is probably the best in the business at giving the Mets a critical run for their money. And every time they have a big meltdown, be it bullpen or offense related, I wait in earnest to hear what the loudmouth from Long Beach has to...
