Dillon Gee said his body "felt dead" during Saturday night's 4-2 loss to the Yankees, during which he surrendered three runs in seven innings. The right-hander did not mean that he was injured in any way -- just that every time he returned to the dugout after pitching an inning, his body shut down like the outing was over.Gee said the culprit might have been the cold air blowing from air conditioning in the visitors' dugout at Yankee Stadium, which gave him problems even while wearing a jacket and towel."It was weird," said Gee, who walked three leadoff batters in a four-inning span. "I felt great in the pen. I came out of the pen and almost felt like I couldn't get warm after that. I was having trouble staying warm between innings. I was up, walking around, trying to move around and stay warm. I just couldn't get loose each and every inning." So either the Yankees turned up the air conditioning in the visitors dugout to stiffen up the ...

MMO Fair Or Foul: Forget Triple-A, Promote Zack Wheeler To The Mets Now

Hey, I haven’t done of these in a while, but after I read something over at ESPN New York this morning, I just knew it was time for a new edition of MMO Fair or Foul… Each week, ESPN senior baseball editor Matt Meyers and Mets blogger Mark Simon convene to discuss the upcoming week for the Mets. I think you’re going to find today’s discussion kind of interesting. Check...

Bobby Parnell’s ugly outings highlight the need for Mejia in the pen

It was a weekend to forget for most on the Mets and Bobby Parnell is among those who would like to erase the games from both his memory and his stat line. Parnell pitched in the last two games of the series and gave up runs in both outings. His line for the two games: 1 IP, 5 H, 3 ER, 0 BB, 2 K, 1 HR and a blown save. The last two games were just a continuation of a recent stretch...

What if John Sterling called Mets’ games?

Dahhhhh Yankees win! Ugh, unfortunately the Yankees did win last night . If you’re familiar with the grandiose stylings of Yankees’ radio play-by-play man John Sterling, you know how much he has a flair for the dramatic. While the Mets certainly don’t have the history or the cache of the Yankees’ franchise, we should take some comfort about the wit and wisdom we get from...

Subway Series Take II: Mets Seek To Even Score V. Yanks: Mets Lineup Vs. Yankees - June 9, 2012

The Mets were taken down a peg last night by the Yankees in an embarrassing performance by Johan Santana and his mates. Tonight the Mets look for revenge as Dillion Gee opposes Phil Hughes. Once again Lucas Duda will DH and Captain Kirk will patrol RF, as the injured Omar Quintanilla will start at SS. Last night's game isn't as cataclysmic as the sports papers and...

Subway Series Game 1: Forgettable night for Mets

There was only one positive thing about attending another Met game with Squawker Lisa that ended in a shambles for my team. Lisa spent two innings on a long, slow-moving drink line because she wanted to check out the Malibu party deck and got back to our seats in the top of the sixth. She looked at the scoreboard and said, "Holy bleep, it's still a no-hitter!" On the...

Subway Series – Always A No-Win Situation For The Mets

This weekend’s three game sweep at the hands of the hated New York Yankees resulted in a number of things.  In the process, the Mets have now dropped six of their last seven games and fallen to a mere three games above .500 for the first time since May 24th.  Their all-time record against their crosstown rivals..a disappointing 35-52.  Worse yet, having had a chance to move...

Dickey's been Niekro-esque with knuckler

NEW YORK -- With 318 victories and a plaque in Cooperstown, Phil Niekro is the patron saint of knuckleballers. But even he wants to seek advice from R.A. Dickey. "Anytime we get a chance, we sit down and talk a little," Niekro said of Dickey. "Boy, I should be taking lessons from him right now." Dickey, the unlikely co-ace of the New York Mets, continued...

Yankees rough up Santana, Mets

NEW YORK -- Only a few innings in, the question for Johan Santana became not how many hits he would give up, but how many home runs. The buzz from Santana throwing the first no-hitter in New York Mets history last Friday ended with a thud Friday night in the Subway Series opener at Yankee Stadium. The New York Yankees slammed him back to reality in a 9-1 win as Robinson Cano...

Game Preview: Mets @ Yankees

The Mets try to salvage the series today as they take on Andy Pettitte for game three of the Subway Series. The Mets have dropped the first two games of the series and really need to bounce back.
