Now that we’ve all had 48 hours to consider the big blow of losing our ace Matt Harvey, I can’t help but wonder about some things that were said during the press conference when GM Sandy Alderson, manager Terry Collins, and of course Matt Harvey all delivered the somber news and then fielded questions from the media. First I want to make clear that this isn’t about playing the blame game. Heck, even Harvey’s agent Scott Boras said that the Mets did nothing inappropriate. ”With his age, and he’s a power pitcher and the whole thing, this is a very normal course for a major leaguer,” Boras said. “It’s how you develop players. There’s nothing on that front that I think is an issue at all.” If Boras believes the Mets have acted responsibly, then so do I… However, something that Terry said on Monday didn’t ring true to me. When Collins was asked how long he’s known about Harvey’s strained forearm issue his response was, “I only became aware of it during the weekend.” Really? It s

A Get Well Message For Matt Harvey

I’m officially in 2014 mode, what about you? Actually, I have been for some time now, but the Matt Harvey news and the purge that followed clinched it for me. Speaking of Harvey, God bless that poor kid. After the news broke about his torn UCL, my heart went out to him and I tweeted him the following: @MattHarvey33 Thanks for all the hope & optimism you've given Mets fans...

Could An April 1st Return Be Possible For Harvey?

Many people took it with a grain of salt when Matt Harvey tweeted the following: Thank you everyone for the kind words and support. I may be done this year, but I will be back next year for April 1. — Matt Harvey (@MattHarvey33) August 27, 2013 Surely, this was just Harvey’s competitive, bulldog mentality clouding his judgement. We all know that Tommy John surgery means a minimum...

Matt Harvey Pledges to Be Back and Ready for April 1 of Next Season

The baseball world was shocked to hear of Matt Harvey‘s devastating arm injury Monday. However, if Mets pitcher Matt Harvey is able to live up to his Tuesday pledge, he’ll downright floor the rest of baseball. It was revealed Monday that Harvey suffered a partial tear of his ulnar collateral ligament in his throwing elbow. At the very least, he’ll need to be shut down for the...

The Mets To Honor Matt Harvey With Commemorative Patch

The New York Mets are doing everything in their power to help Matt Harvey through his injury. Today the Mets placed their ace on the Disabled List today with a tear in his UCL. Matt Harvey: Not The Hero We Deserved, But The One That We Needed

Matt Harvey is going to miss a significant amount of time; not much else is known at this time. What has been well-documented however, is just how much of an impact the Dark Knight of Gotham had on the New York Mets organization and their fans alike. The mood surrounding this franchise has plunged further and further into disappointment, animosity and frustration ever since Adam...

Terry Collins channels Chuck Tanner in choosing his leadoff hitters

After Monday night’s game, my thoughts drifted to the 1977 Pirates. If you just went to the Baseball-Reference page for that team, you might think that they overachieved. They had a Pythagorean Record of 88-74 but their actual record was 95-66. Yet my thoughts about this squad are how they did not score as many runs as they should have given the talent on hand. This is the Pittsburgh...

Matt Harvey says he'll be ready for Opening Day 2014

Maybe Matt Harvey knows something we don't.  Word has still not come down on how his partially torn ulnar collateral ligament will be handled, but the ace right-hander for the New York Mets is already seeming pretty confident that he will make a speedy recovery. Thank you everyone for the kind words and support. I may be done this year, but I will be back next year for...

The Odds of Matt Harvey Breaking Down

Yesterday, it was reported Matt Harvey may need Tommy John surgery because of a torn UCL in his right elbow. Some people may say they saw the injury coming and the Mets were crazy to let him throw over 175 innings this season, but the evidence doesn’t really support those ideas. After looking over the […]

The Mets’ miserable season just got a whole lot worse. WFAN’s Mike Francesa first reported the news Monday afternoon, and a team source...

That said, there is a game today… @MattHarvey33 Thanks for all the...

Matt Harvey Diagnosed with Torn UCL

Sometimes, baseball is just cruel. Source: #Mets’ Harvey has partially torn UCL. Will be shut down. Determination on whether he needs Tommy John surgery will be made later. — Ken Rosenthal (@Ken_Rosenthal) August 26, 2013 A couple of years ago, Stephen Strasburg was the best young pitcher we’d seen in a very long time, and […]

Tom Seaver: Pitchers are being babied

MLB franchises do everything they can to try to protect their top pitching prospects. The Washington Nationals did it with an innings cap on Stephen Strasburg and the New York Mets were planning to do the same with their ace, Matt Harvey. But sometimes it doesn’t work, and players like Harvey suffer a torn ulnar […]
