It was reported on Friday that the Mets had re-signed Elmer Dessens to a minor league deal. Dessens had a solid year in the minors and for the short amount of time he spent in the majors. On a minor league deal there really isn't a risk, if he pitches well you have an inexpensive reliever and if he struggles then he's cut or in the minors. There have also been some grumblings that as the elder statesman from Mexico he has a positive influence over Ollie...Dessens, who turns 39 next month, would get a split contract if added to the 40-man roster that would pay $700,000 in the majors and $90,000 in the minors. source Star Ledger
