Future Double Play Combo?
According to Adam Rubin of ESPN NY, R.A. Dickey is scheduled to undergo surgery Thursday to repair a torn abdominal muscle.
After making his final 2012 start in Miami, the knuckleballer revealed he tore and possibly detached the stomach muscle during his second start of the season, on a cold April 13 night in Philadelphia. He dealt with "dull pain" in his stomach area throughout the season.
The surgery will take place in Philadelphia -- not with Mets doctors.
"Should be no big deal," Dickey tweeted Wednesday.
One other date to watch with Dickey: The National League Cy Young Award will be announced on Nov. 14.
After two games in right field, Jordany Valdespin started at second base on Wednesday night in the Dominican Winter League.

Dickey undergoes successful surgery to repair injury
After making his last start of the 2012 season New York Mets starter R.A. Dickey made it know that he had been pitching with an abdominal tear since the middle of April. The 37-year-old gutted things out down the stretch and managed to win 20 games for a struggling Mets team, putting himself atop the list of NL Cy Young contenders in the process.

Kirk Nieuwenhuis: What role does he have in 2013?
The Mets need outfield help. You, I and the family pet all know this much. It’s so obviously evident, that the Mets should post a Craigslist ad asking for outfield help!
One current Mets’ outfielder who stands a decent chance of cracking the starting rotation is Kirk Nieuwenhuis.
Scott Hairston and Andres Torres are likely gone (especially Torres), as they are soon to be free...

The team says Dr. William Meyers performed the operation Thursday morning in Philadelphia to repair a core muscle injury.

Mets News: Fred Lewis Also Chopped From 40-Man Roster
Yesterday, the Mets announced that they have removed catcher Rob Johnson from the 40-man roster and that he is now a free agent. Johnson was actually eligible for arbitration with the Mets, but now that becomes a moot point. He appeared in 17 games for the Mets in 2012 and hit .250 with four RBI in 52 at-bats.
Today, Adam Rubin of ESPN New York reports that outfielder Fred Lewis...
Is Matt Harvey A Cy Young Contender In 2013?
Our own Craig Lerner came up with several bold predictions of his own last week, so I thought I would throw my own into the mix.
We saw the triumphant debut of the Mets 2010 1st-round draft pick Matt Harvey, providing one of very few bright spots in an otherwise dreary second half of the 2012 season. He came up and looked like the pitcher we have been told about, and in many cases...
Mets' Dickey undergoes abdominal procedure
New York Mets pitcher R.A. Dickey had surgery Thursday in Philadelphia to repair a lower abdominal muscle tear. Dickey tweeted Wednesday that the procedure was minor and that he expected no issues. The 38-year-old knuckleballer said he pitched with a dull pain for the final five months of the season. He's expected to recover well in advance of the start of spring training...
2012 Mets Player Review: Dillon Gee, RHP
PRESEASON EXPECTATIONS: Dillon Gee made a strong first impression with the Mets as a 2010 September call-up when their rotation was in tatters. He made five starts and gave the Mets at least six innings in each and didn’t up more than three earned runs in any. His 2.18 ERA and ability to keep his composure caught the Mets’ eye. When they were beset by injuries in 2011, Gee was...

Johnson, 30, appeared in 17 games for the Mets this year plus 45 contests for their Triple-A affiliate.
From Left Field: Should Mets Extend Terry Collins’ Contract This Offseason?
Contract extensions will be all the buzz this offseason for the Mets.
The team’s only superstars, David Wright and R.A. Dickey, both are coming up on option years, so all the talk has been centered on them agreeing to contract extensions before making any other moves.
But there’s another potential extension that may be discussed this offseason: an extension for manager Terry...
2012 Mets Player Review: Jonathan Niese, LHP
JONATHAN NIESE, LHP
PRESEASON EXPECTATIONS: Jonathan Niese was another Mets pitcher who went into spring training coming off an injury. He pulled a right rib cage muscle in Sept. 2011, while pitching against the Phillies and was shut down. Two years earlier, Niese’s season ended with a severely pulled hamstring. While the Mets weren’t worried about his arm, two muscle pulls had...
An Offseason Agenda for the New York Mets
Signing David Wright to a long-term deal should be priority No. 1 for the New York Mets this offseason.
Coming off a season that began with such promise but ultimately ended in a disappointing 74-88 finish, New York Mets General Manager Sandy Alderson enters a critical offseason for his regime. When he took the reigns almost two full calendar years ago, the Mets were in the midst...
Mets Long Time Coach, Eddie Yost, Passes Away
Eddie Yost, whose 8 years as a Mets coach is third longest in team history, passed away on Tuesday. He was 86.
Born in Brooklyn October 13, 1926, Edward Frederick Joseph Yost was signed as a 17 year old straight out of high school by Washington. After serving his country in World War II the following year, Yost returned stateside and was immediately put on the Senators roster. He...
Grady Sizemore: A Risk The Mets Have To Take?
This is not breaking news – the Mets are in need of a lead off hitter and outfielders as we move towards the 2013 season. Some people may be ready to close the door on Grady Sizemore’s career, but there is still value there. We are still talking about a player that was on his way to super stardom before some injuries side tracked his career. After missing the entire 2012 season...
Are You Unsure About The Direction Of The Team?
Check out the latest poll results from MetsBlog on where his readership vote on if the Mets are headed in the Right Direction or Wrong Direction:
If there was an option that said “Not Sure” that’s what I would have chosen. Maybe that’s why he only got 2,600 people to vote instead of his usual 5K+. I also suspect that those who were unsure and voted, gave the team the benefit...
2012 Mets Player Review: R.A. Dickey, RHP
R.A. DICKEY, RHP
PRESEASON EXPECTATIONS: R.A. Dickey had been a journeyman with a trick pitch his entire career, winning a career-high 11 games in 2010. Realistically, they had no right to expect more than that from him at age 37 and figured to be third or fourth in the rotation at best. Only injuries or poor performance from others could elevate his status, and was why he was in...
