PLAYERS: RA Dickey
TEAMS: New York Mets
R.A. Dickey's next pitch is for kids. The New York Mets' ace has a deal with Dial Books for Younger Readers for three books, the publisher announced Thursday. The books will include a children's version of his memoir ''Wherever I Wind Up,'' scheduled for next fall. He also plans two picture books, one of them called ''Knuckleball Ned.'' Dickey himself specializes in throwing knuckleballs. Dial is an imprint of Penguin Group (USA).

Dickey gets MLB leading 18th win

Oh that R.A. Dickey just keeps on dazzling for the New York Mets.  This afternoon it was a day game against the St. Louis Cardinals that stood between Dickey and his MLB leading 18th win and as usual, the 37-year-old knuckleballer came out on top.  R.A. went 6 2/3 innings while allowing just 2 runs on 8 hits as New York downed the Cards by a score 0f 6-2  (seriously, the Mets...

Mets' Dickey signs deal to write children's books

The breakout season for New York Mets pitcher R.A. Dickey has expanded beyond the baseball field and into the publishing world. Dickey signed a three-book deal to write children's books with the same parent company that published his memoir this year, according to Publishers Weekly. The first book in the deal with Penguin's Dial Books for Young Readers will be a children...

Mets' Dickey gets 18th victory with some adjustments

The knuckler wasn't on, so R.A. Dickey adjusted and went to the sinker. It was still enough for Dickey in a season that has been everything the last 15 were not. He became the first pitcher to win 18 games in the majors this season after the New York Mets' 6-2 win over the St. Louis Cardinals on Wednesday afternoon. (Washington's Gio Gonzalez won his 18th later in the...

Dickey goes for 18th win in St. Louis matinee

Hello and welcome to another day of Mets baseball. Today the Mets send R.A. Dickey to the hill to try to avoid a sweep at the hands of the St. Louis Cardinals. Plus, you may have heard that Dickey is just three wins shy of becoming the first Met since 1990 to win 20 games in a season. History! Last night the Mets were shutdown by Jaime Garcia, who only allowed the Mets one run in...

Sweet 18! R.A. Dickey is the first to 18 Wins.

Mets knuckleball specialist R.A. Dickey became the first 18-game winner in the Major Leagues today. With a solid 6 2/3-inning effort and an Ike Davis three-run homer, the Mets took 6-2 win over St. Louis in front of 30,090 at Busch Stadium. The Mets have won eight of their past 11 games and closed their second-longest road trip of the season with a 6-3 mark. Where was this in July...

Dickey reaches deep into pitching repertoire to hold off Cards, 6-2

ST. LOUIS – Despite the fact that the Mets’ R.A. Dickey did not have his best knuckleball working for him on Wednesday, he still was able to record his 18th win of the season thanks to a different pitch. Dickey relied more on his sinker on this day, battling into the seventh inning, to lead the Mets to a 6-2 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals. “I didn’t have a good...

Put It In The Children's Books

I was worried when Gio Gonzalez took a no hitter into the sixth inning on Wednesday night against the Cubs. Playing Wednesday night after R.A. Dickey won his 18th game in the afternoon, Gonzalez threatened to give N.L. Cy Young voters their iron clad excuse to give Gonzalez the Cy Young. You know from earlier what the talk is about giving the Cy Young to a knuckleballer. And even...
