Earlier tonight, several sources have said that the Los Angeles Dodgers and St. Louis Cardinals have agreed on a deal that will send veteran outfielder/second baseman to the Dodgers for minor league player Jake Lemmerman. Schumaker, 32, had batted .276 in 2012 with an on-base percentage of .339 and a slugging percentage of .368. He batted 28 runners in while homering once in 304 plate appearances. The Dodgers send once-promising minor league shortstop Jake Lemmerman to St. Louis. Lemmerman, 25, was drafted in 2010 in the fifth round out of Duke University and showed a lot of promise. While in the rookie leagues at Ogden, he batted .363 with an on-base percentage of .434 and a slugging percentage of .610  while hitting 12 home runs and knocking in 47 runners in just 303 plate appearances. The following season he moved up through the organization to A+ Rancho Cucamonga and Double-A Chatanooga where he had a combined average of .283 and an on-base percentage of .370 and a slugging percentage of .415. Last season he remained playing for the Chatanooga Lookouts where his numbers continued to decline. His average dropped down to .233 while he striking out more times then getting a base hit and lowering his on-base percentage to .347. On a day most assumed Dodgers General Manager Ned Colletti would be taking a break after signing top-line free agent Zack Greinke and Korean super star pitcher Ryu Hyun-jin on back-to-back days, Mr. Colletti continued to amaze the vast majority of the baseball world. The acquisition of Schumaker, once finalized, will fill a major need in adding a veteran left-handed bat off the bench. Schumaker is primarily an outfielder but also has experience at second base and can be used there as needed. When this deal becomes official, the Dodgers will have to release somebody to make room for Schumacker on their 40-man roster. The Dodger universe is collectively hoping that will be perennial disappointment Juan Uribe.
