LOS ANGELES -- The 2012 National League season has been nothing short of amazing for the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Despite a slew of injuries that would have ended the pennant hopes of most teams, the Dodgers will still be leading the NL West when play resumes after the All Star break on Friday as they host San Diego at Dodger Stadium. And even though it will be Friday the 13th, it should be a good day for Don Mattingly's bunch.
2011 MVP runner-up Matt Kemp and 2-time All Star Andre Ethier will be back in the starting lineup, giving the struggling offense the presence of two of baseball's top run producers. Second baseman Mark Ellis (surgery for a blood clot) and pitcher Javy Guerra (knee surgery) returned prior to the break, but they'll be missing shortstop Dee Gordon, out for at least six weeks following surgery on his thumb. Pitchers Matt Guerrier and Blake Hawksworth are both on the 60 day DL and their return is up in the air.
All in all, the Dodgers have been a remark...
BEST OF MAXIM
We're just more than half way through the Major League season, which means there's only a couple months remaining in the minor league season. It's time for a prospect update.
Since I did a Top 50 prospect list in November, I'm going to unveil my midseason Top 25 Dodgers' prospects. There's been an infusion of new players from the draft and International...
This has been one of the stranger Dodger seasons I have ever witnessed. They've gone from baseball's best team to possibly baseball's worst lineup. Despite that, they still hold a half-game lead over the Giants in the National League West.
The Dodgers are 47-40 and will get healthy following the All-Star Break. Matt Kemp and Andre Ethier should both be back in...
It wasn't an 0-2 performance by Andre Ethier Wednesday at Rancho Cucamonga's Epicenter that was the biggest Dodger news of the day. It was his pre-game assertion that he felt he could have rejoined his Los Angeles teammates prior to the All-Star Break after a left oblique injury suffered in the first inning of a 3-0 loss to San Francisco on June 27 kept him sidelined for...
The All-Star Game is here and so you know what that means, rumors, rumors, and more rumors. We are exactly three weeks away from the July non-waiver trade deadline, so the Dodgers rumor mill, as busy as it's been, is about to get even busier.
The Dodgers are in the market for a corner infielder, as Dylan Hernandez verified once again for us just a couple days ago. The only...
It wasn’t supposed to be like this; at least not in the National League.
Pitcher Chris Capuano has been one of the main reasons the Dodgers find themselves in first place at the All-Star break.
The All-Star break finds the NL divisions headed up by teams that were, for the most part, not expected to be there. Several prognosticators were willing to buy into the idea of the Pirates...
The Los Angeles Dodgers have acquired minor league infielder Ozzie Martinez from the Chicago White Sox in exchange for cash considerations, tweets Dylan Hernandez.
Martinez, 24, is a five-foot-ten, 170 pound shortstop from Puerto Rico. He owns a batting average of .178, with 11 doubles, and 13 RBIs in 60 games this season with the Charlotte Knights, the White Sox Triple-A...
During the MLB All-Star break, Dodgers outfielder Matt Kemp visited the Negro League Baseball museum while in Kansas City for the game Tuesday. Kemp was honored with the museum’s 2011 Oscar Charleston Legacy Award as the Major League player of the year, and the Josh Gibson Award as the premier home run hitter in the [...]
With Dee Gordonsidelined for the next six weeks, the Dodgers added middle infield depth by acquiring minor leaguer Ozzie Martinez from the Chicago White Sox for cash considerations.
Martinez, a 24-year-old shortstop, was one of the two players the Chicago White Sox received from the Miami Marlinsas compensation for the Marlins hiring of Manager Ozzie Guillen.
Martinez will be sent...
The Dodgers have been very vocal about their search for a left-handed reliever this summer. So I am wondering why did I saw a tweet by Dylan Hernandez that the Dodgers aren't interested in Brian Fuentes. No, not a trade, that I could understand. Fuentes is a free agent after being released by the Oakland A's earlier today. Here's the kicker, Fuentes would only have...
LOS ANGELES UCLAs seven baseball players selected in last months MLB draft have agreed to terms with their respective major league organizations and will forgo their remaining collegiate eligibility.
Juniors Jeff Gelalich (first round, supplemental), Beau Amaral (seventh round), Tyler Heineman (eighth round), Scott Griggs (eighth round), Trevor Brown (10th round) and Cody Keefer...
By SBRForum.comFew teams around baseball are happier the All-Star break has arrived than the Los Angeles Dodgers. Talk about stumbling in. The Dodgers were the best team in baseball through April and May, and making plenty of money for their friends backing them against the MLB odds. Now, after a couple of key injuries, the Blue Crew is experiencing some turbulence, and its...
Yesterday, I mentioned a report by Jon Heyman, of the Dodgers being interested in Shane Victorino. This rumor was quickly debunked by Dylan Hernandez, so I don't think there is much to worry about here. Obviously it makes sense for the Dodgers to take a look at every opportunity that could help the team. I have already said multiple times, an outfielder could definitely...
