Dodgers Designate Bobby Abreu For AssignmentIt appears the journey for  Bobby Abreu as a Dodger has come to an end. Today the Dodgers announced that Abreu has been designated for assignment, further infuriating fans around the league. I’ve been calling for Uribe’s head on the chopping block for quite some time now, to keep Uribe on the lineup over Abreu shows a huge lack of accountability in my opinion.

I am pretty disgusted at the moment. I said yesterday on Twitter, the best move the Dodgers could make at the deadline would be to DFA Uribe. What a shame. Somebody will obviously pick Abreu up as a nice lefty bat off the bench. The Dodgers may end up regretting this one down the stretch.

The roster move had to be made to make room for Shane Victorino on the Dodgers 40-man roster. I could think of three other moves that would’ve been better for the team, sad it had to be Abreu.

Los Angeles Dodgers turn one minor move into a Philly-buster

Talk about turning your molehill into a mountain. On Monday, the Dodgers made a “non-headline” move when they acquired right handed reliever Brandon League, 29, from the Seattle Mariners. The original thinking was because the Dodgers have not been able to obtain another starting pitcher, shoring up the bullpen made sense. As it turns out,  League  was being used to set-up yet...

Dodgers fail to land starting pitcher at trade deadline

So, the Dodgers' farm system is weaker now than it was just two weeks ago. That was expected. What wasn't expected is the Dodgers would still need a starting pitcher after July 31. The Dodgers went down to the wire for Ryan Dempster before the Rangers jumped in and snagged him. There were rumors of the Dodgers looking at Jason Vargas as a backup option, but that never...

Vin Scully Talks About Shane Victorino Sending 'The Twitter' and 'The Twit' to Matt Kemp, Hanley Ramirez (Video)

Los Angeles Dodgers legend Vin Scully knows baseball well. Social media? Not so much. Scully was a good sport Tuesday night as he attempted to read a tweet that newly acquired Dodger Shane Victorino sent to teammates Matt Kemp and Hanley Ramirez. But, seeing as Scully obviously had no idea what Twitter was, the quick announcement soon turned into quite the sound bite. Hear Scully...

Video: Vin Scully reads tweet, is amazing

Your browser does not support iframes. During last night's Dodgers-Diamondbacks game, legendary Dodgers play by play announcer Vin Scully read a tweet from new Dodgers outfielder Shane Victorino. Of course, Scully probably has no idea what Twitter is, and his interpretation of the social media service was hilarious. First, he called the tweet "a Twitter"...twice....

Dodgers announcer Vin Scully tries to read Shane Victorino's tweet (Video)

As you would readily assume, Los Angeles Dodgers broadcaster Vin Scully doesn't know too much about Twitter and currently doesn't have an account on the social networking site. During Tuesday night's game against the Arizona Diamondbacks, Scully read a tweet on air from newly-acquired outfielder Shane Victorino and it was a moment to not be forgotten: Your browser...

Dodgers hit high in San Francisco, a low at home

The Dodgers in the last week or so have seen the penthouse and the outhouse, depending on the performance of their offense. After scoring 19 runs and batting .319 (37-for-116) in their three-game road sweep of the Giants to regain a share of first place in the National League West, the Dodgers returned home and scored only four runs and batted .161 (15-for-93) while being swept...

End near for May-Treanor, Walsh

Volleyball players flash hand signals behind their backs, letting their teammate know where the serve should go or where they should position themselves. But for Kerri Walsh and Misty May-Treanor, the First Couple of beach volleyball, this covert means of communication appears superfluous. When Walsh zigs, May-Treanor zags. It is possible, at first glance, to look at them as opposites...

D-backs extend their best run of the season

LOS ANGELES Diamondbacks manager Kirk Gibson was honored, and humbled, when the Los Angeles Dodgers presented fans with a replica bobblehead doll depicting his 1988 World Series walkoff home run for the Los Angeles Dodgers, complete with fist-pump. The D-backs ruined the party while giving Gibson two more homers to celebrate Tuesday, and the uber-efficiency that has marked Wade...

Chad Billingsley Gets Friendly With Strike Zone

I had the opportunity to watch the Los Angeles Dodgers game on Saturday, which saw Chad Billingsley face off with Barry Zito. While I knew Billingsley was having a resurgence of sorts, his stellar outing versus the San Francisco Giants on this day sent me to the Fangraphs leader board where you can see him currently at 2.3 wins above replacement — hanging out with the likes of...

Five memories of Shane Victorino's time in Philly

Shane Victorino was a player to move, but will not be kicked out in shame. The Phillies traded Shane Victorino yesterday to the Los Angeles Dodgers in exchange for right-handed reliever Josh Lindblom and Double A catcher Ethan Martin as well as a player to be named or cash. The deadline day deal seems like a pretty decent move for the Phillies, who I did not expect to...

Taking a flier on Fiers

Sigh: 2012 has been one of those years. On my once-proud Fantasy roster, Clayton Kershaw is not the Clayton Kershaw of yesteryear. Chad Billingsley isn’t the Clayton Kershaw he was supposed to become this year. And Brian Wilson’s beard is less scary than his elbow. In the pitchers paradise of Petco Park, Cameron Maybin continues to be all tools and no home improvement. He and...

Dodgers Trade Analysis: Josh Lindblom, Ethan Martin, PTBNL/Cash For Shane Victorino

As I wrote yesterday, the Dodgers acquired outfielder Shane Victorino from the Phillies in return for reliever Josh Lindblom, AA starter Ethan Martin, and either a player to be named later or cash. Shane Victorino is returning to the organization that drafted him in 1999. The Dodgers acquired Victorino from the Phillies today for starting

New hope for free-spending Dodgers

LOS ANGELES -- It was five and a half hours after the non-waiver trading deadline had passed, and Dodger GM Ned Colletti walked into the press box with a weary smile on his face. "Busy day," a reporter said to Colletti as he opened the door to the dining room. "Yeah it wasbut not now," Colletti replied, the weary grin turning into a full-fledged smile. And so...

What you need to know about Josh Lindblom

The Phillies traded a good player and fan favorite in Shane Victorino, but they got two pitchers in exchange. The centerpiece of the deal was reliever Josh Lindblom, who could help in rebuilding a key part of the Phillies ballclub. Here's the scouting report on Lindblom.
